Welcome. Sorry I can't offer any help. I have a Holo Audio May KTE and I like it, but I'm sure the higher end Lampis are better, but also 10x more expensive.
Not that it matters, but I’m kinda curious—Do you know if the origin of the HiFi Buys big box chain was in Muncie, IN? The HiFi Buys I mentioned above carrying high end was in a house on Wheeling close to McGalliard in the mid-70s, then moved across Wheeling to the strip mall in the late...
I'd dismissed Karen Carpenter decades ago as top-40 pablum, but enjoy listening to the Carpenters The Single occasionally. She was a true vocal genius and her songs (once I get past the syrupy strings) are fantastic.
Thanks. I still have the Samuels stage, but in fact did give up and move to a Wavestream Kinetics tubed phono stage. The Samuels could sound fantastic, but was prone to some sort of warbling noise that I could eliminate sometimes but not all the time.
That was quite a store when it was in the house c1975. Still good when it moved to the strip mall across the street, but then sold the name or something and became just another electronics store.
@luca.pelliccioli I'm afraid I don't have much of value to add, other than I am using the recommended Intona Reference 1.5m recommended by Emile of Taiko Audio. I'm happy with it and haven't thought about USB cables since installing it.
Yes, it took me a few back-and-forths to understand the concept, but then I realized it had the benefits of my beloved WTT Reference tonearm, but with improved stability. A brilliantly simple concept executed nicely. I do look forward to giving it a listen one of these days.
Ed,
That's pretty exciting. No one commented on my observation last week after returning from several weeks of travel that my sound quality had increased, and that was WITHOUT NSM (not sure if there have been other improvements in sound quality with releases of XDMS?) ! Looking forward to...
I just returned from about 4 weeks of travel. I am blown away (sorry cliche) about the sound quality I returned to. Maybe there are other comments about it (I didn’t have the patience to wade through all the pages about switches) or maybe 3 weeks of snorkeling and diving changed my hearing...
Those SPLs seem a bit low compared to what I measured at our local venue C-weighted, which runs about 10 dB higher than A-weighted. As I recall the background level with no music was ~80 dB C-weighted and music was 95 - 117 dB. Granted this was for Taiko drums, but what surprised me was the...
Grandsoir,
I am inclined to upgrade my DAC (oh the days not so long ago when $5k seemed like A LOT for a DAC...), but need to refill the audio coffers, as the DACs I'm considering are in the >$40k range. Plus, the May sounds pretty darned good.
AC
I’m not so sure Ron. At this point analog vs digital to me is down to which medium has the music I want to hear, not sound quality. I don’t have $100k in each front end, but about the same in digital and analog and they are both outstanding.
Now back to those DG records…
I’ve checked SPLs at concerts. Just the background level with people quietly talking before the show hits 85-90 dB. Acoustic taiko drums hit 117 dB. Home stereo sounds MUCH louder at 85 dB.
Rex,
I feel similarly about the Benchmark Class H amps I bought for Summer use. They are so good that I have yet to put the MA1s back in the system. I can only imagine Ralph's Class Ds would be a further step up in performance while keeping the easy-to-live-with SS features.
Now if I can only...
