That is also true. But for iTunes you still have to go to AudioMidi and select the correct sampling rate and bit depth each time you move from red book to a high resolution file. There are of course softwares that do that automatically, such as Amarra and the likes, but they do have issues...
The thing about Mac/PC + software based music servers - they're never really plug-and-play.
Something like a Squeezebox, Bryston BDP-1 or the new Auraliti makes life much easier. But hey, where's the fun in that?
Lee,
Would love to hear what you think of the Calyx DAC.
I recently tried the...
Devialet
If the hypes surrounding the Devialet D-Premier are true, I'm tempting to just sell all my equipments (transports, USB converter, digital interconnects, analog interconnects, DACs, preamp, amplifiers, and rack) and use money to buy the D-premier and a pair of really good speakers like...
Thanks guys.
I had several incarnations of the W/P in my home for the past 15 years, so you know I will definitely like the Sasha (and I did audition them). But...sometimes you go around to find a reason for yourself to take the leap and change something. I really like how the Q5 sounded when...
Thanks all. I know it sounds very silly to buy a pair of speakers you have never heard. I'm surely will avoid that with the exception that there are enough first hand experience from WBF members (the most reliable of all forums out there) that the Q3 is similar to the Q5, or better yet had...
Jack,
I heard it in Bangkok. Driven by Soulution Electronics. Quite something.
Dealer said he will take delivery of the Q3 by the end of Q2, and want deposit now, so deciding...
I've always been a Wilson guy, having own W/P 3/2, 5, 6, and 7. From reading through comments on various forums, I sold my W/P 7 and ordered the new Sophia 3.
Later, the dealer made an error and ordered the wrong color for my Sophia, so he's offering quite a discount on the Sasha (or money...
I too find the transparency addictive. You can hear it from the first few notes and no need to convince yourself about it.
However, in my system I experienced first hand the mismatch, perhaps it's the impedance. My Tranquility DAC has output Z of 600ohm (mid-high) and my class D amp has input...
@ devert
I had a good listen to the Tranquility and compared it to the Weiss DAC 202.
The Weiss is no-doubt superior in most ways. In my limited experience, it has better micro dynamics and soundstage wrap around that I have never heard from any DACs. Bass also seems to extend for another...
Amir,
Thanks.
Is it that right the lower freq suffered from impedance miss match?
Do you have a rule of thumb? I've seen many, don't know which one to use.
Amir,
Some newer sources are now tuned to drive power amps direct (at least they claim). In your view would a source with output voltage around 3-5v, 100-600hom, present a problem with modern amps?
Thanks!
Nicholas and devert,
Since last week I changed my DAC to dB audio labs' Tranquility SE which is a USB-only DAC and can only run at 16/44.1. I understand it uses "normal" USB implementation, not asynchronous.
What is ironic is how this 16-bit DAC sounds better - in most areas accept bass...
I recently got the Malaysian made EVA2 passive LDR preamp after reading several reviews. Similar in concept as The Lightspeed Attenuator but with remote control and source selection. They are very good indeed.
Nicholas,
Thanks much for the explanation and the link. I'll get my heads around it.
I also dislike traditional pre-amps, and now using LDRs passive volume control (Lightspeed attenuator, EVAII). The EVAII is remote controlled and very very transparent. Problem is very very low level hiss...
Nicholas,
Do you find digital dithered noise shaping attenuation (a-la Audiophilleo) better than a ref quality preamp? To my mind (not yet my ears - have not tested) I understand that it is created by random noises so it's counter intuitive that it can be better. But what's your experience...
I just ordered a couple of anticables and anti-IC for for the Shigaraki as a center piece to replace my current office rig (my wife starts complaining at home). Building a custom AD1865 DAC for it. Will find amps, etc. Fun all over again!!!
Sounds like a good platform.
The Shigaraki sounds excellent from the first spin. Bass extension is amazing compared to the Teac VRDS50 it replaces which is very ironic as I would have thought a very stable transport with extreme vibration damping and clamping disc like the Teac would excel in...
Muralman1
I have a question on the transport. The place I am putting the Shigaraki on is not too far back from the speakers. I see that there are no dampening of the chassis what so ever and am a but worried of vibrations.
Have you tried any dampening materials on your FF like pods or feets...
Nicholas,
My friend has been using the DAC3 for a year, so it is well-broken in. As for the 2.5, I left it running for almost two weeks before really listen. My amp has SE and XLR inputs so I plug both in for A/B (matched level). Reconnect, switched over in case of wire performance, etc...
I had the 2.5 and was comparing it with the BC DAC3 (on loan from a friend). It is very similar both in tonality and presentation. However, the 2.5 USB input is clearly better than the 3's. The edge is gone. :)
Would love to audition the Flatfish, but seems out of my league. I recently found a nice pre-own Shigaraki transport. Will be making comparisons and report back!
