This a before and after comment .. unfortunately not super detailed but I think goes to the heart of acoustics and natural sound. It's the preferred reverberation time for the listner. Tapio Lokki et all have established that peoples...
I am using a 4 way speaker, 8chanel dac and 8 amps with crossover filters in an acourate convolution filter located in jriver on server. This system is intended to be a home cinema as well as music. The dsp adds a delay of 600ms ( theoretically) which results in a a sync problem with video...
AJ what amazes me is any interaction we have with AI such as chat bots on corporate websites etc are beyond infantile , just blood pressure raising time wasters ...so clearly no money is being splashed into that area where it could be useful answering the simple questions. I share your...

Tim,
I'm just starting a process of using acourate for crossover filters as a crossover ( aided by a friend) and as far as I can see getting it all as close as you possibly can prior to using acourate is the key .. I measured all drivers outside and up in the air to get halfway decent clean...
Nice to have a theatre named after you:)
It is a beauty .. interestingly the flat floor removes " seat dip" that you get with tiered seating and the walls between the boxes reduce early side wall reflections and the lovely high ceiling reduce ceiling reflections so it ticks a lot of boxes.
I...
Very cool. The importer here will be getting a pair soonish. I think these are conceptually a very clever design .. quite a step forward. I am sure they will be amazing

The increased sensitivity to fr between 3-6kh is a well documented symptom of ... eerrr.. ahem.. aging
Not sure any speaker designers are going to create a range for the "older" listner :)
Confirming that improvements still work over time is a great move ... you may have previously corrected by limiting something that treats the symptom but is not the cause. Acoustics is a great example. If you remove early reflections you achieve greater clarity.. your transformer might have done...
Pretty decent room !
I have 130hz dip and part of it is wall behind chair.. 750mm from wall .. I can open the door and reduce the depth of the dip. The rest is from a multitude of reflections which obviously sum to that dip. I can dsp it out.. almost.. at listening spot but it's not really...
I watched the toole video.. he says digital or active crossovers are the future . I also wondered what his talk would have been like had he worked for acoustic treatment companies for 40 years rather than a speaker company.
Not denying that he and olive have done great work but it's not the...
In fact you could argue that putting a digital source through an analogue crossover is a backward step. The pinnacle of digital crossover design will always surpass the precision of the best analogue crossover. Consider linear phase, precise alignment (including adjustments for imperfect...

I have both and they work very well together but had not done extensive trials. I was at a friend's yesterday who also has both and we tried them separately and together and there was a clear improvement with both. Whether its worth the expenditure is subjective
Cheers

Ron .. the woofers crossover at 250hz so are still directional ( down to say 170hz) so side wall reflections are reduced with woofers inboard and I am certain speaker distance to chair offset would be a problem as well. Woofer Position does not change room modes but it sounds like the impact...
Hi rdw
I have used the ediscreation silent switch then added the firebox II .. improvement each time .. I like these as they have excellent internal power supplies and it reduces box count.. if you have not looked there is quite a long thread on these that is worth reading as folks have done...
Good Idea !

I suspect the baffle displacement addition to sound generation is probably not a big deal at low frequencies but if vibration is transmitted to other drivers or their baffle that is an issue for sure .. after a few generations of the orion linkwitz designed a separate support for mid/...
I imagine smearing can happen anywhere in the chain but I would have thought it is most apparent in room acoustics as in a reflected sound arriving shortly after the direct sound causing a loss of clariry ... it also could be a reverbarent field that does not correlate in phase and or...
The gaps between panel at wall in the reflection zone are very small and I would doubt if they would make much difference in this case
Manufacturers usually test at a gap 50mm or so and increase from there ...you would expect them to have a higher absorbance and go a little lower in fr as gap...
Thanks
Theoretically you should get a dip at 95hz .. assuming your back wall reflects that frequency
It's also about 5ms later than direct sound so within the "smear zone" so could warrant treatment but I think side wall reflections are shorter and more impactful
