Many moons ago an acquaintance had a pair of tickets he wouldn't be able to use. Fourth row, dead center at the Boston Garden.
The group was Pink Floyd. I had heard of them but had never heard their music. I bought the tickets because he was so bummed he couldn't attend. Wife and I went the next...
BIG FAN of the Amperex 6922, 1965 “USN”, White Label, Gold Pins.
Use these in the output of my ModWright modded Pioneer SACD Player with great results!
I'm a big fan of NOS Amperex tubes from the 50s & 60s.
Not cheap unfortunately.......
Had four kidney stone attacks in my lifetime (the first, by far, the worst).
They were the uric acid type.
Four years ago, a 3/4" stone was discovered during an X-ray.
I was about to receive a serious operation to remove it when my doctor suggested I try a long shot.
I started taking Potassium...
A new double review: http://v2.stereotimes.com/post/silversmith-audio-fidelium-speaker-cable-by-mike-wright/
Not surprisingly, they LOVED them!
Greg Weaver has awarded the Fidelium as the Cable of the Decade:
Try it, you'll buy it!
Very keen on the Amperex 6922, 1965 “USN”, White Label, Gold Pins.
Use these on the outputs of my ModWright Modded Pioneer CD Player.
Also use the Amperex 7119, D Getter, Pinched Waist (Late 1950s) in my PreAmp.
They produce a vivid, somewhat SS sound profile.
I totally recommend Andy Bouwman...
I leave my ModWright KWA-100SE Amp on 24/7.
My tube CD Player, Tube PreAmp and powered Subs are turned on/off daily.
It takes a couple of hours to reach "cruisin' temperature" with resulting optimum sound.
One of the main problems is that very few recording engrs have a clue on recording bass instruments.
Either it's too softly recorded or the bass overpowers the microphones giving soft, fuzzy, bloated, distorted, tubby bass.
Or it's recorded clean but too loud in relation to the other instruments.
tmallin,
Excellent write up!
I have a 13'x13'x8' room. Bad ratio dimensions for sure.
I own Hales Signature Two Speakers which LOVE a dead room.
My floor is concrete with a thick pad and rug over it.
I use three subwoofers.
Like you, I utilize near field listening with my speakers and chair well...
Saw the Temps circa 1970 with Little Richard as the opening act.
LOVED the Temps, but Little Richard was absolutely sensational and a tough act to follow....
I regard Ascorbic Acid as an essential nutrient that greatly enhances one's immune system. So much more than a vitamin to just prevent Scurvy!
We cannot produce our own Vitamin C within our bodies (most animals can).
When an animal gets sick, their bodies produce a prodigious amount of Vitamin C...
I pretty much eat what I want. I do consume red wine 4-5 times a week.
I used to be an exercise fanatic, to the point I WOULD get colds occasionally from over-training.
Nowadays I just walk and do yardwork.
I would say my parents got their share of colds and Flu. They lived into their late 80s...
My tweaks are a lot cheaper and more mechanically inclined.
1) A rigid, rock solid rack system (I use Mapleshade Samsons)
2) Mass loading on the top of each component. (20-40 lbs of lead)
3) Vibration control internally and externally using Noico car damping sheets.
4) Judicious use of...
I don't believe I will take the vaccine. (may change my mind after more research)
I am 70 yrs old and haven't had a flu shot in over 50 yrs.
During that time I have not had symptoms of the flu or any virus.
I've had about a dozen colds during that time period.
All my life I've been taking...
I had never noticed this since my system has always rendered it well.
The bass and drums are separate and one does not cover up the other.
Guess I pass......
I can see that an unbalanced system would have problems with this passage.
Yes, the center sub receives summed signals.
That would be an option, but I like the bass integration and balance my current set up provides. Frankly, I'm amazed it works so well in my 13' X 13' X 8' listening room.
First of all, a recommendation: Stanley Clarke - Journey to Love
The set up I employ works quite nicely for me.
Two Genesis Servo 12s Subs in a stereo configuration (both placed outside of my Hales Signature Twos on the same plane) They cover the 30-50 Hz range.
One Revel B15 Sub centrally...
I have never been able to overdamp a chassis.
Also load 25-50 lbs of lead and brass on top.

A tweak that improved the sound: The Enacom Noise Filter (speaker type).
Placed across the speaker terminals (across the tweeter terminals if you bi-wire), I heard an improvement in the critical Upper Midrange/ Lower Treble response.
Sweeter, but with added clarity.
Note: Do not attach this...
QuadDiff,
Sorry (and surprised) that the Fideliums didn't work out for you.
My take is totally opposite from yours.
System synergy is a fascinating thing.....
