    Audiophile Fuses

Carlsbad,Could you please explain a little more about the types of circuit breakers because I`m a little confused having looked on the RS Components website where all the breakers described as magnetic are called thermal magnetic?

MPD-8 Playback Designs - What did you own before and what did you compare with?

An interesting fact about Playback Designs Dacs is they are designed by the guy who invented DSD so not surprising they are so good.

    AlsyVox Botticelli with external crossovers

    I agree,no more Apogee talk!

    AlsyVox Botticelli with external crossovers

Thanks for reply. From the picture it looks like the clamps are made from Corian in place of the original MDF;also I notice some horizontal bracing at the back of the magnet structure, interesting! While I was tuning the bass panels I thought out of curiosity what the frequency response of these...

    AlsyVox Botticelli with external crossovers

The bass ribbon magnet gap on my Duettas is definately not as large as 7mm so I would suspect your Interstellas have stronger magnets than standard. As I recall you had input into the rebuild of your speakers; do you remember if the magnets were upgraded?

    AlsyVox Botticelli with external crossovers

The actual driven area of the Duetta is equivalent to 6 12 inch bass drivers.Having replaced the bass ribbons on my Duettas myself I don`t recall the distance between the ribbon and magnets as being 7mm;more like 3mm unless your Interstellas are built differently than standard.BTW what type of...

Visit to Henk van der Hoeven -- Apogee Acoustics Re-builder/Restorer

If you want a amp which will easily drive apogees look into the Nord amps. These are sold direct from the manufacturer so don`t incur massive markups from dealers etc. The build quality is exceptional for the price. The reviews are very favourable, some customers ditching their...

    Entreq Tellus grounding

Kevin, I think you are misunderstanding what I`m saying about the earth chassis isolation technique. The chassis isn`t ground lifted but the internal circuitry is ground lifted with reference to the grounded chassis. The Ben Duncan Earth Henry inductor would not be allowed to be sold here in...

    Entreq Tellus grounding

Microstrip, As long as the chassis is earthed I can`t see the problem with safety;just think lots of cheap consumer grade electronics in plastic cases don`t have a earth connection, are they unsafe?

    Entreq Tellus grounding

The standard value of the ground lift resistor is usually 100 ohms but this doesn`t compromise any safety issues apparantly.Bruno Putzeys class d amplifiers use this method so I assume they comply with most electrical safety codes.

    Entreq Tellus grounding

Kevin, where the DC supply is connected is important and it appears some engineers get it wrong. The earth chassis isolation system I`ve described isn`t some weird thing I`ve thought up it is well established practice in well designed equipment and is known to give the best results with regard to...

    Entreq Tellus grounding

Kevin, the secondary earth should be no problem as it is joined with the mains earth proper before the earth filter, so the equipment is only seeing apparantly one earth. I still contend that if these virtual earth devices are improving sound and lowering hum they are covering up incorrect...

    Entreq Tellus grounding

It appears to me that these virtual earth devices are doing no more than what can be achieved by proper earthing techniques at far less cost;in my case a single high current dedicated mains spur, earth cable then paralled with secondary low impedance earth(Radex cable clamped to a nickel plated...

Tweaks you have tried which are detrimental.

I tried a antistatic mat on my SACD player out of curiosity. The claim for this device;which consisted of several thin layers of antistatic plastic as used for packaging transistors was to improve the smoothness of rotation by eliminating static discharge.Infact the exact opposite ocurred when in...

    Audiophile Fuses

The best fuse is no fuse.I replaced the fuses and mains switches on my amps with thermal magnetic circuit breaker mains switches. Take a look on the RS Components website for ETA branded said switches , these are available in ratings from 1 amp upwards;not cheap but solve the fuse problem.

Let's Get A Consensus Of The Best DAC's In The Market Today

Thanks,I`ve already read quite a bit on those threads already.I`ve owned Duetta Sigs and Stages for over 20 years and would never go back to box speakers especially as I`ve modded them in various ways;Graz ribbons, yes self fitted,we aren`t all ham fisted incompetants!10 years on and still free...

Let's Get A Consensus Of The Best DAC's In The Market Today

Probably the best DAC out there at least as far as technical performance must be the MolaMola DAC. This has a snr of 140dB with HMD and IMD below noise at full level plus super low jitter. The DAC consists of 32 1bit types operating at 100Mz. There`s a video on Youtube explaining its...
