Best solid state preamps around $15k used with remotes

Cool, I see a soulution 520 preamp for sale at audiogon. I don't need the phono that comes with it though since my stack is digital. Have you compared soulution preamp to other ss preamps or tube preamps? I am trying to get a bit more impressions of it. Thanks.

Best solid state preamps around $15k used with remotes

I know dartzeel amps are very musical but I never tried their preamps. I read from discussions that their preamp is a bit noise prone and should be matched carefully with amps to get a good sound. Have you compared it to other brands' ss preamp? Are you talking about their 18-NS preamp? thanks.

From ARC ref 10, what’s next. I need recommendations

I just sold my ARC ref 10, because the 2 chasis together takes too much space and it void wife approval. So now I am looking for a preamp that is smaller in size than the ref 10 now. I used to own a VTL 7.5 briefly and I think that size is ok. Although the vtl also has two chasis, at least one...

speaker cable recommendations for Joseph audio speakers

Thanks. I would love to try things around before setting down on the speaker cable. I like used gears but it is very hard to resell used ones based on how slow they sell in general. Six weeks may be too short to try a few different used cables. Maybe enough if I go for The Cable Company route.

Very nice rack and a beautiful convoy. haha. It actually looks a lot nicer aesthetically if all the gears have handles so it stays consistent.

    ARC ref10 remove handles

I was trying to make it look more compact since I put them directly on top of the shelf. All my previous equipments does not have handles. But maybe they are good as it is. I just need to get used to it. : )

    Ref6 tube rolling

I have been rolling the 2 6h30 tubes in my ref10's power unit with 6n6p and 6h30p-dr (84). Aligned with the observations above, I found the noise floor to be lowered using 6n6p. When i use stock 6h30 tubes and put my ears to the speakers, I can hear some pulse like noise. But when using 6n6p...

    ARC ref10 remove handles

Asked the AR service people and here is the reply: "Summary: Yes, it is possible but the handles are what hold the faceplate to the chassis so if you remove the handle, you'll need new screws, washers and nuts that will hold the faceplate onto the chassis." I will probably try to unmount the...

    ARC ref10 remove handles

Has anyone tried to remove the handles on the front plates of the ref10? I found that there are two screws inside the back of the front panels that holds the handles. Probably they can be removed. I am wondering has anyone tried it? I feel it will look better without those handles. Thanks. Yuheng

    ARC ref10 tube rolling?

Thanks for the advice! Do you happened to tried a few different brands of 6n6ps? And should I replace all 8 of them in the main unit and 2 of them in the power unit, or is there a recommended place where to put them first? Thanks!

    ARC ref10 tube rolling?

Hey tima, thanks for the detailed reply. This is tremendously helpful! As for the Tungsol black plates 6550s, how can I tell the reissues from originals? I found a couple of pairs for sale at ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/133604886140, https://www.ebay.com/itm/373395821811 but not sure which...

    ARC ref10 tube rolling?

I just purchased a Ref 10 which shows 2535 on the tube hours. The preamp is on the way to arrive next week. I want to know what are the recommendations for some tube rollings for the ref 10? It uses eight 6H30P in the main units, two 6550C and two 6H30P in the power supply. Thanks!
