LeRoy:
I’m glade you got a lot out of the workshop and you would attend one again if they have another and I hope they do, you said you where just getting back into reel to reel tape (welcome back) you also stated that much of it was over your head and you are a bit of a novice so I can see...
I hope your right Steve I have attended several of THE SHOW audio shows the last one being 2016 the 2017 was canceled I’m not sure about 2018, I live in northern CA. and this was the one hi end audio show that was close enough to attended. And I wander how many people out of the LA area did...
Did anyone attend the audio show “THE SHOW” (June 7,8,9) in southern CA. this high end show came and went and was not attended or even mentioned at AV showrooms, Analog Planet, and others, I think it was to close to Munich audio show that was in May, this is to bad because this show will die.
It’s been a little over a mouth since I attended the workshop in Berkeley, Ca and I thought I would give you my 2 cent worth,
First off I would like to thank and say Tim Marutani was a great host and very accommodating, but for the workshop it self I got little or nothing out of it and I think...
I have notice on some Studers, Revox and my Tascam 42B there is a square flip up head shield on the head stock, dose anyone know what this is used for? The owners manual calls it head shield assembly and nothing more also I can’t find anything on the internet.
The CC&R albums I have including Willy and the Poorboys was released by AcousTech and is no longer in production it is true there are a few songs missing on this album AcousTech released most of the CC&R albums in 45RPM, it is not an Analog Production.
I’m beginning to wander if I got a bad tape, but to late now to check again, I sold the tape, but I did make a copy of the tape on SM900 tape at 15 IPS EQ IEC and got the hole Tape Project tape on one reel, I guess they could of sold the tape on one reel, but that only would saved the cost of a...

Creedence Clearwater," Willy and the Poorboys," I’m not saying this is a bad tape it is very clear and detailed just very thin, and the 45 RPM vinyl sounded much fuller and had more depth
Pete
I don’t have any Analog Production tapes, But there is a tape you may like to show off your master tapes, I would get " Arnolds Overture" that is available from The Tape Project, I have heard both the CD and vinyl of this album and the tape blows the socks off both of them, this tape always...
If your Tascam BR-20 is properly aligned it is very capable of playing The Tape Project, analog production and other 15 IPS master tapes, I have a few of The Tape Project tapes, and my BR-20 is stock, and I can here the great Sonics of these tapes, I don’t think you will gain much by using...
Larry: I have to agree with you on how great 7 ½“ 4 track tapes can sound, I have the RCA 2 track tape of Victory at Sea and the 4 track RCA reissue, and I was surprised on how much better the 4 track sounded, of course this isn’t true for all 2 track tapes, I have a lot of 4 track and 2 track...
One of my favorite past time is comparing 2 track prerecorded (7.5”- 15”) reel to reel tapes to vinyl LPs and I have found 90 percent of the time the tape sounds better than the LP be it original or reissue, but this brings to mind the one exception of a reissued 45 rpm LP record I have, and...
This reel to reel forum is for Studer and Studer equipment only, all other brands of reel to reel decks and equipment that are not relayed to Studer need not apply, your post or comments are of no interest here.
I have seen and heard the UHA tape deck at audio shows and it dose sound fantastic, Greg tells us about all of the great things he dose to improve the sound of a stock Tascam BR-20, the new playback heads, a complete new playback amplifier and the outboard power supply, that’s all well and good...
Well they are doing it again, two audio shows within weeks of each other in the same area, there is the LA audio show and one week latter T.H.E. SHOW I think T.H.E. show well end up being canceled again, unless you live in the LA area I don’t think you would attend both.
I have a small collection of reel tapes and most are the older 7 ½ “ 4 and 2 track prerecorded tapes but I do have a few of the new 15” ¼ tapes and I have found certain types of music really benefits on recorded tape and that is acoustic interments like symphony orchestra, solo...
Now it seem like every time some one mention a new tape deck (machine) they just got the first question is, is it set up for external preamps, or what type of outboard repro preamps are you going to use, like this is what you need or should do, I like using the existing stock repro amp if it...
First off Happy New Year to every one, I just acquired a Tascam 42 NB tape deck, over all everything is in nice shape and has had little use, the heads are good and after running the MRL test tape the rec/playback is okay except the right channel seems a little flakey and drifts now and then, so...
What is noise? Well for example turn on your stereo system turn the volume all the way down put your ear up to the speakers, you should here nothing if you do that is noise, now turn your system to phono turn the volume up to where it would be if your listening to music you should here nothing...
If you have a Tascam BR-20 or UHA tape deck here"s is a trick that these decks are able to do, if you have The Tape project tapes or any other tape that you store tails out, before you rewind the tape to play reset the counter to “0” wind the tape to the start of the first track (song) and note...
I bought The Tapeproject Creedence Clearwater Revival, Willy and the Poor Boys, I was on the fence for a why’ll as to weather I want to buy this tape because I have the 45 rpm LP of this album but I just had to hear how much better the tape will sounds than the 45 LP, so I did an AB test between...
I have a Tascam br-20 that has almost new stock heads, (53783018) but I also have a spare set of brand new heads from a Tascam 42B (53783023) both heads are Rec/Play type so my question is of the two, which one is better sounding or are they equal, I notice that the BR-20T uses the 42B type...
Rocketman: I notice the album cover on your post, I have never heard this album before so I looked it up on eBay and found a few available from $50 to $150, I thought maybe there is something special to be asking those prices, but more than I want to spend on an unknown, anyway I was in a used...
I have a Tascam BR-20 and Teac X2000M, I was running some MRL test tape (7 ½ “& 15”) the BR-20 and X2000M where with in factory spec. from 30 to 20KHz, I was using a two channel scope so I could watch both cannels at the same time, but on the X2000M there was a problem, the left channel sine...
