Now that I've moved into the "modern era" with a cj Classic 62SE (biased for EL34s) and paired with a MAC C22 preamp I'm no longer concerned with some alleged "golden glow." After briefly owning vintage cj preamp and amp, I can say that what I'm listening to now is much more agreeable and far...
After many more hours of listening, and some experimentation with speaker position (SF Guarneri Homage) I just wanted to report that for my ears, the pairing of MAC C22 and cj 62SE (biased for EL34's) is a joy. This is the first time in the over two years since I sold my MFA tube separates and...
Latest MC275 vs cj Classic 62SE?
Has anyone had the opportunity to compare these two amps? If so I'd value your thoughts. One of my systems is the latest version of a MAC C22 into a cj Classic 62 SE and I'm wondering what, if anything, positive, I might gain if I were to swap the cj for the...
@Lagona
I've moved the GH's more times than I care to count. Now that I've found what I figure is at least "good enough" placement, I'm content to sit back and listen. I've had Cremona Auditor M's and the GH's plus stands are a bigger bother to move. For the same reason I can no longer pull...
@BruceD,
Thanks for weighing in. I appreciate it.
Our GH's will stay in the family "forever." When I first acquired them, even without critical room placement, I thought they sounded much more like 'stats than a box speaker -and I still do.
I never thought I'd ever even see a pair "live" let...
Since no one has responded yet, I'd like to revise the topic to this: Has anyone gone from stand-mount monitors which must be placed at least a few feet from the front wall to speakers that are designed to go either up against or very close to the front wall? Examples: Larsens, Audio Note...
Has anyone switched from either SF or similar speakers which are placed out into the room, to Audio Note speakers placed in corners or vice versa? If so, can. you kindly share your reasons and results?
I ask because my dedicated listening room is 11' w X 13' L and while I'm quite pleased with...
My C22MKV now has about 75 hours on it and it's paired with a Conrad Johnson Classic 62SE. Both the C22 and the CJ need more burn-in time but at this point I'm very pleased. The phono stage in the C22 is certainly good enough for my purposes. I wanted tone and balance controls as well as a...
@Taiko Audio :
Can you kindly describe what you mean when you hear "teflon capacitor signature?" I've got about 110 hours on a Classic 62SE. Some folks say that the Teflons need upwards of 400 or more hours before they are completely broken in.
Thanks.
@ThatStereoSound:
Can you kindly...
How long before the buzz goes away?
I think if our listening room were much larger and we could sit further back from the speakes, the Synthesis might have worked for us. I'd characterize the amp as sounding big, bold, and full. Sorta Viva Italia! Red, fast Ferraris and Lambos. :)
Thank you sir. I surely will. And oh yeah, rooms and speakers can make substantial differences, for better or worse. An example in our home was a number of years when I had rich-sounding Chapman T-7 in our living room. Between the speakers was a large, cushiony sofa. Imaging and bass...
Sometimes "exceeded expectations" lead to revised expectations. As impressive as the Synthesis a40V was, and it was certainly impressive, I decided to return it and get back into Conrad Johnson. I'm expecting delivery of a brand new Classic 62SE. The Synthesis was amazing in many ways but...
@Harris4crna
I live about 3000 miles away from Vu's establishment so only home demos for me. :)
I'd love to visit Deja Vu someday but that's unlikely to happen.
Even after just a relatively few hours spent with the a40V I can say it has met and exceeded my expectations.
@Harris4crna
The Sythesis a40 V arrived today and I've been streaming Roon through a Gold Note DS-10 with the Gold Note dedicated power supply.
My initial impressions of the Synthesis are extremely positive. The soundstage is enormous. Wide, tall, deep. There is a fullness and richness to...

I am a owner of the Synthesis A40. Like to get your view on the amp following your audition.

I shall do so. I'm quite eager to have some in-home time with the Synthesis.
Thank you AJ. I've been mightily tempted by that ARC component and I've had excellent dealings with Paragon. The VSi75 is on my short list.
Meanwhile, I'm awaiting the arrival of a tube integrated of Italian origin. I'll have a generous amount of time for a home audition. It has KT66 tubes...
Hola RJ,
Believe it or not, the MV55/ET3 pairing sounded better to us than the CAV45-S2. Not by a wide margin, but nevertheless. And while not absolutely essential, I find that having a remote control contributes considerably to my listening sessions.
Be well amigo,
paolo
Unfortunately the MV55 has developed some "issues" (buzz word for multiple tubes red-plating. I returned the amp. That is it! I've had it with vintage gear, especially of the glowing bottle variety. :). Fool me once....
So back to my trusty Luxman Class A until I find a suitable tube...
The ET3 is here. It was used by my cj dealer as a demo unit and it looks virtually new. The dealer was kind enough to install a fresh tube. The preamp operation is completely intuitive and is working flawlessly. It looks pretty on the shelf. I like the digital volume read outs which are...
I decided that the particular PV5 I have been using had a bit too much of the golden glow so I've got an ET3 on order which I suspect will mate quite nicely with the MV55 and leave me with at least a modicum of "glow." And although I'm still rather spry, I'll enjoy having a remote control...
Has anyone compared the Atmasphere D's to an Aavik "entry-level" amp? I'm asking because the only Class D amp I've heard recently was an Aavik I-180 which was very quiet and detailed but did not seem like music to me.
I'm very interested in Ralph's amps.

Although in this hobby we have no rules IMO the REL connection should not be used with tube or other amplifiers with low damping or limited frequency response. Probably it can sound decent with medium - high damping amplifiers.
When using the REL Speakon cable from the system...
@Famester
Kindly allow me to clarify my comments about dialing in the REL T5X's. They work fine with the cj MV55 and the Guarneri Homage. I've set the crossover and volume settings on the RELs quite low- barely audible really.
But so far, I can't get the subs to sound good with the LRS+. I...
@LL21. Thank you for your comments. I never thought I'd see a pair of GH's in person let alone own a pair. It was pure chance since I wasn't even looking for different speaker because at the time, I was quite happy with Cremona Auditor M's.
My PV5 came with the Hovland caps and an IEC...
Meanwhile, back here, down on planet Earth, I replaced the tired new production EH 6SN7's in the MV55 with NOS GE's dated 1957 and 1962. This was an immediate improvement and perhaps SQ will improve further after 100 hours. Coming soon: NOS 5751's for the PV5..... :)
