Nice to read about Acoustic Signature in here. It's close to A-S heaven at my place :) Invictus jr with TA 9000 NEO and 7000 NEO tonearms. Ascona with Ikeda 9" and SME 3012-R.
Congrats on an amazing turntable, tonearm and cartridge. I am sure you will enjoy!
I have the Ascona mk3, and even for a totally non-practical guy like me, it was easy to set up. Together with a friend, we used about 2 hours. The manual is easy to follow. The critical point is to put on the...
Thank you, Urs! Still getting to know 3012R and enjoying more music this evening. The original manual says "Special", but I am not sure what it means. Can't see any difference between my arm and others. Maybe someone else in here has got the answer?
Thank you! I had to rebuild it to make rca connectors face downwards. Tried also with original cables or angeled rca plugs, but space is too narrow for the arm to slide back and forward.
The heavier Bluelectric seems to give a more precise bass in the 3012R than in SME V. Soundstage also seems wider. Still early, but that is first impression. The manual on the picture is Japanese, but seller provided me with a copy of the English one as well. Haven't tried the original cable yet...
Thank you so much, Peter. It's a SME V on the other side. I'm starting out with the Bluelectric Magic Diamond SV in an Ikeda headshell for a start. First impression of 3012R is really good. Dexter Gordon on Blue Note right now...
Finally got the SME 3012R mounted on my Accoustic Signature Ascona. Tonearm bought from Japan and looks like new. Just starting to spin. Thank you @hogen for your kind help!
How to start... Just out of the box Terminator Plus plays amazing. It keeps throwing out sparks in the upper midrange and treble. Details and musicality I have never heard from any digital source at my place. And I have tried several premium dacs here. I will write more later. It's warm outside...
That is interesting news! I have the previous one, didn't even know about the new model. In my opinion it sounds amazing when stuffed with Telefunken NOS 801S, 802S and 803S.
Hi Richard,
I am reading with great interest - and I will keep in mind that Avatar will solve all. Guess it is the solution as long as I mostly listen to good old redbook CD's.
Cheers from Norway :D
Thanks for the advice, Richard :D
The cdp is Jay's Audio CDT Mk2.
I am thinking about replacing it with the Avatar, or could it be possible to keep it and buy a Gaia instead?
Anyway, I will get familiar with the Terminator Plus / Jay's combo first before I decide.
VTL is my favourite. After I stuffed it with Telefunken 801S, 802S and 803S, it sounds amazing. All acoustic instruments sound at it's best and the bass is tight. Really wonderful for jazz recordings. I use the Transfiguration pickup on the Whest. The music comes a bit more forward. Strings...
Nice to hear your opinion on the Orion Reference, which is also incredibly good. I've heard same TT with Reed arm and Bluelectric pickup. That's also an amazing combination. Yes, I do consider a SME V arm or SME's arm built for Trans Rotor, the 5009. This arm is something in between the 309 and...
Glad to hear you liked it! This is the one made of transparent acrylic and suitable for 12" arm. Tourbillon is made to order so it is possible to have it exactly the way you want.
Thanks! I will write more about the sound later, but first impression is amazing bass response and very black background. I think it sound is really good, although I have a reasonably priced arm and pickup...
Thank you, Folsom. I think it is attractive although it is not many Trans Rotor tables around. My Tourbillon is the only one in Scandinavia. Don't know how it is in the US?
Yes, it is the same turntable as you can see in NorthStar's youtube movie. Standard version has got acrylic platter and transparent acrylic chassis. Mine is special version in black with 16 kg (35 lb) aluminium platter for even tighter bass. Total weight of turntable is 60 kg (132 lb). It has...
Thanks, you gave me a lot to think about now. Maybe I should consider a 12" arm instead... Natural sound, greater detail and low frequency extension is indeed interesting. And I'll check out the counterweight sled right away.
Thank you, PeterA. A friend of mine took the photo when we installed the turntable last summer. Only change I've done since then on the analouge side is changing Avid Pulsare II phono stage with the Whest. By the way, my dealer thinks it would be BIG difference with the SME V arm... What do you...
I am extremely satisfied with my JR Trans Rotor Rondino Nero FMD. The free magnetic drive system gives me an amazing attack and musicality, even though I have a quite reasonable priced arm and cartridge. And not to forget the class A Whest Ref V phono stage... It provides a totally black background.
