Are Ethernet tweaks/gimmicks turning out to be like the same in the USB space?

usb is the worst connection and your better dacs don’t even include usb. I2s is the best but most dacs don’t include it and nobody wants to pay more for it

Are Ethernet tweaks/gimmicks turning out to be like the same in the USB space?

For a decade or more, I went thru applying many of the USB tweaks to try to better the sound quality of USB to the dac, some made a little difference, others nothing, and others made things worse. After playing wasting my money on USB stuff and dac, decided to get a great sounding dac with...

Wilson Audio Chronosonic XVX First Impressions

Oh boy, Harley is going to do another review of an audio product with the outcome being very favorable, like the best he has ever heard, top of the line, and highly recommended. No different than any other review in TAS or stereophile.

    Femto NVME SSD, test version

Too bad somebody can throw a few terms around and the gullible audiophiles buy into this. You know, there have been computers that use m.2 nvme for their boot drive for years, this is nothing new. Look at the apple MacBook Air computers. You have to ask why the OP is using SLC not MLC, TLC, 3D...

    Cable Modems

I’m sure if you are getting 100Mb up and down but only you can determine if it’s fast enough for you. I had the ATT 1Gb fiber for many years ($60 a month) and we streamed everything with no delays and a very quiet network. 1 benefit of the higher speed option is unlimited data and at 1G speeds...

    Femto NVME SSD, test version

What "effect" are you talking about? "you are just jealous": of what? because you have name ssd? I have had these (actually enterprise grade, not the units you buy online or thru Best Buy) over 6 years ago. I have documents on enterprise vendors websites on how to implement and tune million $$$...

16” Mac Book Pro To Launch by End of October

I have used apple since the apple II days. The most powerful/elegant OS for an end user. I can run any flavor of Linux or god forbid windows on my Mac. I was in IT for many years and MS Windows was the worst OS, always having to update the OS for virus's, always reboot for some reasoning. "Plug...

    Femto NVME SSD, test version

You know this thread is bogus, right? You will not be able to hear any difference of sound quality between a HDD/SSD/NVMe device. How can you? Each of these devices are storage mediums and the data read from these devices has to be placed in computer ram before sending it out on any port. So...

    The argument for/against room treatment

I agree. I would actually state the room is the most important component in the system, probably equal to synergy. A bad room can make a $1M system sound like sh$t, where a good room can help a so so system sound better. I doubt this poster ever had a treated room or they would understand the...

Isolation Transformer and Balanced Power versus PS Audio Regenerator

I never trust a review from a dealer that only recommends what they sell and bad mouth products they don’t sell. The only way to tell what product is best for you, especially at $5k-$10k prices, is to audition them in your home with your equipment. If you do purchase 1 of these units, you want...

    The argument for/against room treatment

you cannot have a reference system without treating the room 1st. Speaker placement will only get you part of the way there. No speaker placement will get rid of 1st reflection issues or what issues corners cause unless your room is outside, then you have other issues.

    Here’s what I’m looking for...

I'm with you, but dsd128 content is almost non-existent, at least from what I have seen. That's why I'm waiting to see what comes out, maybe a new bridge iii card will be produced. I hear its in the works but will run their own server software and not support Roon

    Here’s what I’m looking for...

Tony22 - why do you think the bridge ii is limiting? Limiting in what regards? There are so many pluses using a network connection over say USB and allows you to use a server in another room. I also have been looking at trying the I2S input but haven't found a clean solution yet. If you do and...

    Your DAC replacement thoughts please

Not at all. If you look into this dac, it handles everything you need. I don’t have to worry about jitter, upsampling, a clock, powerbase, and connections. This dac provides more features than most dacs. Check these facts: * Class A+ Stereophile rated DirectStream DAC converts any digital input...

    Your DAC replacement thoughts please

I have a few requirements myself on dacs: * it must sound very very good * it must support mqa * it must support Ethernet and/or i2s * it must be FPGA based * must be a Roon endpoint capable I only use Ethernet or i2s and will never use usb again. My dac sounds better every 6 months or so and...

    Large speaker improvements

The BE-10’s are very good speakers. I have the Usher x-towers with the dmd tweeter, 7” mid, and 11” Eaton woofer. Both the mid and woofer are front ported. Plenty of bass in my large dedicated room. The speakers are 7’ from the back wall and 50” from the side walls. I use asc bass traps in the...

    Large speaker improvements

What’s just as important is the room length. Then you can apply the 1/3 principle meaning place the speakers 1/3 of the length of the room from the back wall. You can also use the 1/5, or 1/7 Distance

    Large speaker improvements

That cavity will hold about 50lbs of sand, maybe a little more. That is nothing. Your speakers are Around 200lbs each. So I’m guessing you weigh anywhere from 150-200lbs, so when you were moving the speakers around, you had around 400lbs of weight in that area. If you had a friend helping you...

    Large speaker improvements

If you want tighter bass, fill up the cavity. I wouldn’t worry about the weight because you are spreading it over a large area. I would unplug the ports, fill the cavity all the way, and then start closing the port

    Large speaker improvements

Aerial hasn’t made a quality speaker in many years. How did their Flagship 20t do? It Failed. Did you ever hear it? I did multiple times and it was so shrill sounding. Usher is in a much higher league. Their 9t speaker isn’t even built anymore and that was their better sounding speaker for...

    Large speaker improvements

Sure, it just happens you remember that Usher had the worst setup room in your history of going to audio shows, which is a speaker we are discussing here. Are you a troll? We are discussing areas that you don't have experience in. We are discussing more current technologies and more upscale...

    Large speaker improvements

Sbo6-It sounds like that poster has not heard what good bass sounds like, aerial didn’t have good bass in its day and vmps are not noted for their bottom end either. There are differences between bass drivers even if that poster doesn’t think so. Usher Eaton drivers are very very good and can be...

    Large speaker improvements

Fuscobal-not sure why the previous person responded when they don’t have any experience with Usher or the 11” Eaton especially when Usher are in a different league than Aeriel or vmps speakers. Comparing the be-10/be-20 to the x-towers, a couple of things are different: 1) be-10/20 have a 5”...

Best "bang for the buck" DAC

I have been streaming from a local server for almost 12 years using a variety of software. Then I moved to a dedicated Auralic Aries server. All of these scenarios had the server sitting in the audio room using usb. Since the better dacs come with network connections or i2s, I got rid of the...

    Cable Modems

I’m also an ex enterprise network guy. I have 1G fiber to my house with multiple switches and routers throughout the house. Whole house is wired cat-6 with cat-7 AQ cable to the dac. For tuning, I set everything up using large packets since we stream video and Tidal MQA at the same time. Always...

    Large speaker improvements

I have the Usher x-towers with the 11” Eaton woofer. I would like to add a few things That made big differences to the sound quality of the bass. I used to have the Usher mini dancer ii’s with the hegel h300. I liked the be-10 so I decided to upgrade. When I heard the x-towers at an audio show...

    New Usher reference speakers

I also owned the MD II’s for a few years. Nice speaker but the bass was not tight, too loose. Filled the port and added 2 subs and it was much better. The x-towers are in a different league. The 11” Eaton woofer is great as well as the DMD tweeter. As for tri wiring the x-towers, that’s what...

    New Usher reference speakers

I wouldn’t say that about the mid woofer in the x-towers. Why would the grand tower at $40k use the same 7” mid and not the 5” be-10 mid? There are 2 crossovers in the x-tower, 1 in the bass module and 1 in the top enclosure. I am tri wiring the x-towers
  29. R

    New Usher reference speakers

Are you guys confusing the x-towers with the grand towers? I have the x-towers which have 3 drivers vs the 5 drivers of the grand towers. The x-towers were direct competitors to the be10’s. The x-towers have the larger mid driver than the 5” in the BE10/be20. The x-towers have the same 7” driver...
