    Wilson Audio XLF

Soundchek is high density sound orientated plasterboard (drywall). Two 13mm layers with greenglue in between have been added over the existing 10mm standard plasterboard with all gaps filled with acoustic sealant. This will help stop the walls rattling. Plus all lights and switches and...

    Wilson Audio XLF

Australia is a small market so there wouldn’t be too many examples of MAXX’s, Alexandria’s and Alex’s around. The XLFs were a massive step for me so sorry not likely to change unless I win lotto. Plus now with the low USD to AUD exchange rate, USA gear is very expensive here. The JL subs...

Yes it has been awhile. Haven’t heard of any planned upgrades or replacement for the DD+ series but will likely happen eventually.

    Wilson Audio XLF

Hi Shane and Loyd, FWIW, I went for two Velodyne DD+12 subs for my XLFs, a few years back. This was after talking with the new European Velodyne owner who has also been the Wilson Audio distributor in Europe for many years. The two subs had the advantage that each sub could be positioned...

    Krell 402e blinking red

Hi AusieAudi man, I used Watson Electronics in Brisbane. Link attached. http://www.watsonelectronics.com.au/ However, they no longer work on pro-audio and domestic audio. One option may be to call and ask if Micheal still works there. He fixed my amp. Otherwise Audio Marketing in Sydney...

    Wilson Audio XLF

I will let you know. I have looked at Stillpoints several times other the years. I use Finite Elemente racks and footers for my components but have always struggled to accept the floating bearing type technology for speakers since they rely on a fixed platform to launch acoustic energy. From...

    Wilson Audio XLF

I’ve had the Torus for several years with now issues. Never had any grounding hum issues but did have a mechanical hum in a Krell FPB300cx amplifier transformer which was eliminated when the Torus was introduced. Yes I also benefited in 2018 when the XLF was about to be retired and the XVX was...

    Wilson Audio XLF

For those interested in the potential impact of changing the resistors on the XLF it is well worthwhile. The factory accessory kit came with a full set of replacement resistors, so this first change had no cost impact. Well I am very pleased with the results. Some of the improved factors...

Dedicated audio room build thread aka The Big Dig

@heebrog, I had the P10 before the Torus AVR16. I also had a Krell FPB300cx at the time that after many years of trouble free operation, every now and then the transformer started to mechanically hum. Time of day or night, switching appliances in the house off, nothing worked to stop the...

Same here. I use a Torus AVR16 and have had no issues including capacity to supply my system. Also makes it a bit easier in Australia as we have 415/240vac.

Curious About Cables - Curious USB and FoilFlex Analog Cable

Hi Simmogra, welcome to the forum. I found the Foilflex give good results for their relatively low (compared to how high cables can cost) asking price. Happy to stay with them with no plans to change at this stag.

Anyone with big, high current amplifier(s) find a power conditioner that doesn't destroy the amplifier's virtues? Is it even possible? Which Ones?

Torus AVR16 first due to it’s current capacity, has surge protection and includes a voltage tap changer to ensure a constant voltage is presented to all downstream equipment.

LL12 you are correct. My AVR16 feeds the Krell Evo 400e monoblocks and a PS Audio P10. P10 feeds An Uptone PS for the MacMini, EMM Labs DAC and Krell Evo 202 pre. The AVR16 Plugs into a dedicated 240vac 6mm2 power supply cable that is only 5m from the house switchboard.

My room is not in the same league as yours but we all have to work with what we can get away with. Having freedom to decide your own room dimensions must be a big advantage to start from. I should create my own system post one day but for now a few photos are at...

    Chronosonic XVX.

Hi, I know he was heading to the USA around late Feb for a business trip and take the opportunity to listen to the XVX and Gryphon. But I assume this probably didn't happen with the world lockdown. Plus the USDollar to Aussie has tanked in recent months, so a purchase of this magnitude would...

    Krell 402e blinking red

Hi, I use to have a Cipher SACD front end and so had Nordost CAST all the way. However, I sold the Cipher years ago and changed to an EMM Labs DAC and MacMini server. For me this produced much better results than the Cipher. The pre 202 with Evo amps are running CAST at the moment. It is...

Anyone with big, high current amplifier(s) find a power conditioner that doesn't destroy the amplifier's virtues? Is it even possible? Which Ones?

Agree that it would appear to be a dc offset problem as is typical for this type of hum. However as it was intermittent, could occur day or night (so couldn’t be caused by a solar panel inverter), may last 15 minutes, 1 hour or more, and may not happen for a few days and then occur, it was...

Anyone with big, high current amplifier(s) find a power conditioner that doesn't destroy the amplifier's virtues? Is it even possible? Which Ones?

Hi All, My experience that may help. I had a Krell FPB300cx amp before the Evo 400e monoblocks and it started to hum at random times from some external disturbance. I tried various dc blockers, disconnecting household white goods but could not eliminate the hum. I eventually spoke with...

    Chronosonic XVX.

Agree the XLF is a great performer and the XVX sets a new benchmark in performance and price (the WAMM must be a further giant step forward). The continued drive by Wilson to improve their products periodically through upgrade/replacement of models has provided a nice upgrade path for me. My...

Hi, I’m in sunny Brisbane, Queensland. It’s Great to see what others like yourself have done with room builds/isolation/treatments. I have only been able to add treatments to an existing room, but the improvements were very welcome. I can only imagine how far you can go when you start from...
