Gilad Hekselman and his third album 'Hearts Wide Open' recorded on March 28 & 29, 2010. Melodic subtle jazz without swing playing remind me the best Kurt Rosenwinkel 'stories'. Lightness of playing and communication between musicians can delight from the beginning to the end of the album. On board: Joe Martin on bass, Mark Turner on sax and Marcus Gilmore on drums. Very select musicians and superb music.

Just listened to the 24/192 remaster of Kind of Blue on my reference system. Unbelievable. Everything that was irritating about it is fixed and the bass is to die for. Very live, no tape hiss, instruments are live sounding. Last track is killer. Download it from HDTracks.

I have the mono version in 192/24 FLAC and the stereo version in DSD64. Both sound great.

One of my favorites.

The tracks have uneven sound quality (for example Gone with the Wind has significant recording issues), but the good ones are stellar (e.g., Stardust, Caravan, What Is This Thing Called Love).

Dynamic, 3D, convincing tonality, and just the right amount of the club background.

The mix is unusual, in that Webster's instrument does not dominate (as is the case for many other recordings from this period), and as a result, he is organically integrated into the combo. The overall effect is one of being in the audience...

Downloads of two albums in the latest Tone Poet series and they are stunning compared to the CD.
There’s lots of talk on SHF about how these were made and how they are as close to master tape as can be.
I’m sure they sound incredible on vinyl too. C4110C92-2B8D-4D94-A028-BA62603DDF20.jpeg A5A25F88-5AFC-4A3E-B301-E70FC67C45A0.jpeg

Some of my fave current jazz music is coming from jazz pianist Jamie Saft... he is responsible for an amazing amount of collaborations and some of the finest of it is with the New Standard Trio with Bobby Previte and Steve Swallow.

Highly recommended especially the albums New Standard Trio and Loneliness Road (with Ziggy Pop) and then with the Jamie Saft Quartet there is the album Blue Dream... all pure musical jazz gold.

Here they are in concert... The New Standard Trio: Jamie Saft on keyboards, Bobby Previte drums and Steve Swallow the other guy :) you may recognize him also from his work with many of the greats including with Carla Bley... pure joy!
