Alvin Lee tragically passed away today after what was described as "unforseen complications following a routine surgical procedure". Lee is best known as a founding member, lead guitarist, singer and songwriter of the English blues-rock band, Ten Years After. Lee went on to enjoy a prominent solo career in the following years after the group disbanded.

Fantastic guitarist, may he rest in peace.

That's a damn shame. I wonder what "routine" surgical procedure he was undergoing?

Add another guitarist to the "Heaven (or wherever your eternal resting place may be) all-star rock 'n roll band". Alvin Lee was an outstanding blues guitarist who spent a number of years trying to escape the type cast Ten Years After got after thier electrifying performance at Woodstock. Sleep well Mr. Lee.

There was a quote from a 2003 interview in his obituary, describing the reaction of US fans to his music, which was based on american blues- "Big Bill Who?" They regarded it as a British sound, because according to Lee, most American listeners at the time had no clue about their own musical heritage that Lee was adapting- just like Jeff Beck, Clapton and Jimmy Page.
