The word on the street at Axpona was that Andrew Jones will now be designing speakers for Mofi.

Seems like an interesting trend in the industry. Companies like PS audio have also hired "famous" designers to design their (awful) DSD DAC and amps.

Mofi recently released their turntable.

Interesting what Andrew Jones will cook up, and what price points they will target ... Elac was excellent. I heard standing ovations after his presentations of Elac speakers costing less than $1K, presented in tiny, yet packed hotel rooms!!!

Ted Smith was an unknown when PS Audio hired him with the help of Gus Skinas. DirectStream DAC was not “awful”. On SACD the recent software was quite good if not up to the standards of other brands.

Andrew Jones’ hiring reminds me more of Bill Low’s Audioquest approach with Garth Powell, Gordon Rankin, Skylar Gray.

I just saw the Andrew Jones interview about his move to mofi- super interesting as I have a room full of Andrew’s best designs (TAD for 2 channel and his Adante’s for home theater)

@caesar if you are ever in NYC you can come take a listen just how “awful” the Directstream Dac fed via an etherRegen and the BHK300 amps sound. The TAD CR1’s are quite revealing and and the amps drive them better than I’ve ever heard, including TAD’s own.

I haven’t heard other dacs in my system but have a strain gauge based phono system to compare with. I’ll probably get the new Directstream Dac, as I really like how his it’s sound can evolve over time via firmware.
Interestingly I also have the Garth Powell unit mentioned above - the Niagara 7000.

I spoke with Andrew at Axpona about the new post. He is quite excited to have an carte blanche
in starting anew there. It will be interesting to see where he starts. Said product should be out
by end of 2022.

unfortunately I’m afraid he won’t be doing statement products - the first speaker will between $2-3k. I would love to see what he could do at a higher price point.
