Pondering a change vs my Ikeda IT-407 .. just curiosity really.

For use on Schopper'd TD124. Currently paired for with an IT-345 which is primarily used as a dedicated arm for mono with mono cartridges and SUT.

I have an SME 3012 here as well which is far from disgraced with a lovely fluid presentation, though the Ikeda is the best all-rounder of the two.

Cartridges are low compliance: Miyajima (Madake, Takumi, Zero 1.0 and 0.7, Kotetu 78), Ikeda (9TT), SPU (various).

I tried the Glanz a couple of years ago, nice tonearm, get the 3012-R quite an upgrade from your 3012.

I’m aware of the 3012R fan club here and I’m sure it’s justified, but for various reasons - mainly down to ergonomics and ease of use when changing cartridges, which I do often - I prefer the Ikeda as a main tonearm. The Glanz would replace my Ikeda as the main workhorse.

Nothing official but some have suggested around 28-30g.

I'm ordering a Glanz MH124S. Any thoughts as to what to pair it with? It's a heavy tonearm and i have never owned an SPU. I wonder if that is worth trying?

Reviving a slightly old thread. Anymore experiences with the Glanz? Thinking it could be a good match with Koetsu carts, as a substitute for the FR-66S where prices have gotten crazy.

Today I have fitted my new Glanz MH-124s. First impression is very good.
But give me a little bit more time to understand the tonearm better.
Than I will post accordingly.

I have a Ortofon Meister SPU available, so it will happen!

but not any soon, as my SPU is at the moment fitted in an Ikeda 345 on another turntable

I do 100% agree. The sound ist great.
But for the most of my cartridges I cannot accept to have no Azimuth correction.
I hear, what the Glanz Headshell can do, but focus and contour is constrained due to Azimuth missalignment.

Unfortunately the Glanz Headshell does not work properly with the Sumile as well . It looks like, that the golden Part of the Sumile is the same stainless steel Glanz is using for the Headshell. So no resonance transforming for the energy, going from one material into the other, than normal with headshells. The effect is a lot of resonances, like small echoes. I tried another cart with a wood body, not that kind of effect.

So I am trying to find a Headshell, which is mostly similar to the Glanz Headshell sound performance with adjustable Azimuth correction and a material which is harmonizing with the Sumile.

If I cannot find, It is also possible to use the Soundsmith Hyperion OCL with the Glanz tonearm.
(in my accessory box are still a lot of headshells to give them a try)

More on the overall performance of the Ganz MH-124S after some more hours of music and "playing around"
