I got it and at the moment I am a bit MEH about it. It took him 13 years for this? Seems nothing new musically. Perhaps a few more listens I will get over my disappointment and enjoy the 3lp set more.

I find his last album from 2001, the 4lp box set Drukqs to be musically and sonically better

Of the current top 5 I'd say it is the best. Problem is, it is one heck of a weak top 5 IMO. Lindsey Sterling, Erasure, Clean Bandit and a Various Artist record? Erasure? Really?!!!!!

I think it's good but not the best EDM album I have. However, it does need time to actually sit down to listen and appreciate. More like a classical opus in the vein of Infected Mushroom than just dance house music.

The production quality on the LP is excellent - quiet surfaces and very dynamic.

I'm just glad Aphex Twin didn't get all weird after such a long hiatus unlike his buddy Squarepusher whose 2012 album gave me a migraine. I've always been more of a The Orb guy myself. The 2010 colab with Dave Gilmour was pretty trippy. I hope they come out with something soon.

EDM record of the year just released:

I'm just discovering this album now... it reminds me in parts of some of the early 4Hero stuff. It's very different of course but there's something familiar there. Enjoying it so far!

In a similar vein this is rather interesting: new album from Caribou - Our Love

Folder.jpg

Downloaded it yesterday from Qobuz in 24/96, fantastic sound quality. I had a first listen and it is very good. Released on the 6th of October.
