DCS Or LAMPIZATOR- YOUR CONSIDERATIONS.

Should we think that the german and swiss markets prefer PCM to DSD?

No idea buddy. I actually like the bold move from Lukasz with this - the Lampi PCM is really now stunningly good and closed the gap dramatically on dsd engine. At one point the dsd left PCM for dust but this isn't the case now. My PCM engine is hugely resolving, fast and very musical - loving it. I think that some folks just can't be arsed doing upsampling and don't own dsd. I think Siebner will be a successful product.

Hi Barry

Sorry for my heretical question but have you also sonically compared the Lampi with the DCS stuff?

For my ears do the Lampis sound a lot more natural and lifelike than any DCS stuff I have heard.
In Munich there were several setups with the Wilson Alexia (?) and the one system with the all-in 4 box 90k DCS top model sounded the worst for me.
Just earpiercing cold and thin. Not at all like natural instruments sound like...

+1..........I couldn't agree more with your observation. The DCS stack driving the Alexia was probably the worst sounding room that I visited in Munich this year. I entered the room and they were playing 'Wish you were here'. It was so uninvolving that I stepped out in 10 seconds! May be there was something wrong with the set up because I simply couldn't understand why it was sounding so bad

Siebner will be a blow out product!

Not sure if it can be limited just to the DACH region! LoL

I can see the massing hordes beating down the gate at Lampi HQ demanding to be included! This is based on the prelim feedback I have been hearing.

Can you explain it for beginners? What is the "r2r dsd" and what is the "new PCM engine"?

Apparently he can do R2R DSD now. The R2R Pcm also seems to have updated firmware that is more liquid...though I find that hard to imagine.

Resistor Ladder based is R2R. You can have that or for PCM you have a new Amanero board.

LoL

You don't play!!!

What pray tell are the advantages over the old GG?

I was having a special trannie installed in my GG as my voltage is very high in my house - 252volts most of the day. So - when in the workshop...

I have new PCM and DSD engines in it. I have spent most of the time listening to PCM so far - it is incredible. It has quieter noise floor, more resolution, faster and just more vivid. I have only listened to dsd engine a little thus far so am not yet able to competently describe the benefits but I would say more resolution but more real / organic sounding.

This will only happen when people realize to trust ears and not price tags

Oh crap!

The new r2r PCM is honestly stupendous and quite a lot better than previous r2r PCM - would say kick up of 25%!
