Finally, after 3.5 years that HBO confirmed to Variety that “very preliminary discussions” had been made to resurrect the Western series with a movie, it's here!

I agree. I have been waiting for this for some time now. Like Steve said, in the top 5 of HBO series. The Wire is still number 1.

At least fourteen actors who played in Deadwood also had parts in Sons of Anarchy. Many of them more than just bit parts too.

That’s very interesting. Was it the same director or producer of each

A good summary of Deadwood.

There are a few nice summaries on the net and also Youtube that will refresh your memory if so required. I've been looking forward to something like this ever since they pulled the plug.

Some interesting stories about what happened 13 years ago when it was not renewed. Also Timothy Olyphant was not fully onboard when he initially heard it was only going to be a 2 hour movie. He didn't feel that would allow David Milch to get the everything tied up.

I thought it was well done. It made me miss the show more than I anticipated. They were able to tie together so many past events. The way it was presented you didn’t need to have watched the series but you will enjoy it more if you had. You will get some of the inside jokes that will go past those who are seeking it for the first time. The dialogue was good with both funny and sad points.

I like how they found a way to fit many of the bit players we remember so fondly into the two hours even if only for a line or two.

Bravo.

I found it way too long and boring. All I could think of during the movie was common get on with it and when there was finally a bit of action, it was over before it started. Even the dialogues got on my nerves, all these poetic frases didn’t fit in at all. Wasn’t worth the wait, major disappointment.

Well I finally had time to watch it and I have to admit that I expected more. After all this is Deadwood, right?

Wrong....

Yes it was great to see all of the usual characters and how they aged but this seemed like a quiet soap opera ending. There was nothing in it to remember the Deadwood as I knew it. What a huge disappointment

Cant believe Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 97%

That was not only the case with Rotten Tomatoes, every single reviewer praised it saying things like a ‘brutal, beautiful farewell for a TV classic’, ‘a new and fantastic way for a bunch of cocksuckers to go out’ or ‘the fucking conclusion the show deserves’.

When I read all of this I thought they must have seen another movie than I did because all I could think of was what a way to destroy the mythical status Deadwood had gathered over the years with something abominable like this!

It was as statifying to watch as a porn flick without any nudity…
