I can easily find dual eds1000 and eds1000-2 (701, 721 tt's). Are they worth building a plinth and mounting high quality tonearms? Are they close to p3, p10 dd units?

Exsample brinkmann bardo motor is a modern version from dual eds 920/930. Of course good enough for high class diy turnable.
the eds 1000 should be even smoother but needs a more complex controller

Eds 1000/2 motor is the powerfuller motor from a dual 721.
If the power supply had been outsourced and a better plinth had been given, it would have been the high-end machine of the 70s.

There are more than a few 721 TT's around me that I can get and take out the motor unit. They are all clean and working. The tonearm limits cartridge choices and the level of performance of TT as stock is not satisfactory for me.

I was just wondering if getting one and taking out the motor unit, building a real good plinth, adding a very good tonearm and building an external power supply would take it to high enough level of performance that would be worth all the effort.

Some people do it ,it's really worth it.
Shematics eds 1000/2 check all potentiometers and electrolytic capacitors on these 40-50 year old motors.
