I agree

I was surprised when, after Jon explained to her his heritage she simply replied”you might have a claim to the iron throne “

But to me what was a little shocking was seeing Arya naked and having her first and perhaps only sexual experience. Gosh when the series started she seemed to be a young adolescent.

It made me think we were being exposed to child porn

Maisie Williams (the actor that plays Arya Stark) is 22 years old. The police won't be called to your TV room Steve....

was it a body double, hopefully?

I agree it was really strange. If they did the same thing with Hermione in the Harry Potter series I would feel the same.

Most intense episode since Hardhome for sure! Congrats on nailing the ending.

Is Jon Snow the worst battle commander in history?

my only gripe with the lengthy battle scene was that it was all night scenes and even with my 4K TV I was having a tough time making out who was doing what to whom BUT there were a lot of well knowns who met their demise

I just thought it was way too dark to make out most anything.

Honestly I thought there was something wrong with my relatively new 4K Samsung TV, but no it was just an effect with the Night King's snow "bomb." IMO it hampered the viewing of the episode.

We turned off all of the lights in the room before we could start to make out what was going on.

I just think that there was too much missed in those terribly dark scenes and yes it hampered the viewing of the episode

Yes, I closed all the blinds on my 4k OLED tv to help but it was intentionally done that way. I'm watching the replay tonight after sunset. In some respects, war is a blur so I get it. But it was hard to even tell who was fighting whom on screen early on.

All in all, the episode was tremendous but rang a bit hollow on the Night King/Bran/civilization relationship. I think this review nails it:

That was awesome, it's too bad more characters didn't survive but it was obvious many would go from the start. I'm glad Dany and Arya didn't die though, I thought they might, and I was pretty sure Arya was going to be the one to kill the Night King, but I was guessing with the weapon Gendry made her.

I was also hoping for a little more fleshing out of the Night King's character and relationship to Bran. I also expected to see more battle strategy that I thought was going to involve trying to kill the White Walkers since by killing them it would kill all their wights, but this never happened I guess. Sending the Dothraki on a suicide charge seemed pointless and something the Night King would be ready for, it didn't make any sense to me.

As far as the darkness, many modern TVs enhance contrast by transitioning from light to dark too quickly, which can wash out bright scenes and kill shadow detail in dark scenes. For a lot of things it works fine but for this episode especially, a professionally calibrated tv would probably work out much better. A dark room also helps a lot.

Agreed. But it looked great on screen! Loved the view from Dany and Jon of the Dothraki fate.
