Hi to all the members,

It was with such great delight, that I got to know about this site.

As all of us have been on Agon, and I was severly disheartened when I kept following 'there is only one Oneobgyn's" threads and commentary which had come to a sudden stop. I don't wish to persevere or know why, but revel in the fact that the man has not lost his passion, is well and probably wants to get away from the political BS which has probably been a blessing by the emergence of this website!

Thank you Steve! Thank you to also the other founders and voluntary moderators for giving your time in building this website.

A little bit of back ground about myself.

I specialise in general management and at present work for the largest pharmaceutical global company.

I learnt to play the piano from a young age and persevered that to a moderate level of being able to play swing, jazz and other genre's. But most of all I learnt the hours of dedication and practice one would have to place to have a succesful musical career. My father was taught the violin by Zubin Mehta's dad, my uncle played in the London philharmonic and his daughter (my first cousin) is considered as one of the top best harpists in the world.

So the passion for music was born within me, and I always marvelled street to top concert level performers for the joy they can portray through a medium of voice and sounds that can eminate from instruments.

My set up is medium to high end as compared to industry standards. At present they encompass brands such as a Basis Signature Vac turntable, Emm Digital source, Allnic, Concert Fidelity and Lamm pre and power amplification feeding into a Avantgarde Omega Series Horns. All this with an assortment of tweaks such as SRA Ohio Shelves, Sound Application Conditioner, PSC Cables, Combak, Acoustic Revive, etc.

I have been through other manufacturers products such as ML ReQuests, Sonus faber Guarneri's, Jeff Rowland amplification, Theta Digital, Krell, Conrad Johnson, Music Fidelity, Ensemble speakers, EAD, Bill Beard, Cardas, Kimber, Illuminati, XLO and the list goes on; as I started my journey since '84.

I live in beautiful Sydney and spend a lot of time with my school going sons and partner. I also sometimes buy 3 copies of LP's (if they are great) which I don't know is right or not, with foresight that they may turn out to be audiophiles.

One of my life ambitions is to visit a few of the audiophiles homes based in the US and Europe to hear their set up, share music, learn about their experiences and most of all to offer the same reciprocal invite when they are in my part of the woods. This by far to me is the best way to learn and set benchmark levels of playback attainment.

So fellow 'What's Best" members, I look forward to reading and sharing the forum with your views.

Cheers,

Neville

G'day Miles and Steve,

Fanaticsm or not - the audio journey continues and will never end.

Miles today's largest global pharma company is Pfizer, with a turnover of US$70+ Billion.

They bought us (Wyeth Pharmaceuticals) out last year in October hence the jump to No.1

They paid US$62Billion for Wyeth! What recession or GFC are we talking about......!

Great to be on board, thanks for having me.

Cheers,

Neville

;););) I found that line amusing haha. It's funny, we often 'moan' about how kids nowadays are growing up on mp3 yada yada, and therefore fear about the future of good sound.

I too wondered, my daughter drives off in the car and I am wincing at the obvious distortion that can be heard from twenty yards away because the vol is on full.....yet sit them down in front of the system and they DO respond!! 'Wow, there are things there I have never heard before etc etc"

So your kids growing up in a home surrounded by music (always the most important thing!) and exposed to excellent sound, yep I would not worry too much!

Be careful not to let on where you live, you could very well find a complete stranger like me knocking on your door! I'm at bathurst.

It is always valuable to hear other systems (just talking generally here, not rudely inviting myself around) for more than the reason you mentioned. The biggest thing I have learned is that there are many equally valuable and valid paths to a fantastic system.

Once you GET that fact, all the usual forum rubbish kinda get's put into perspective. Because, most of that rubbish comes from those who have NOT learned that fact, and are instead pushing the 'my way is the only valid way' line...in other words they are still immature if you will.

Yes the boys do enjoy their own music on Mp3, but they can hear the difference between the compressed sound and the system easily, and so they prefer to listen to the music I play or ask for their requests to be played. These can be from Tiki-Tane, Fat Freddy Drop, Yello to Nat King Cole!

BTW, you are more than welcome if you are coming down to Sydney. Send me a PM.

Cheers,

Neville
