The owner of the vehicle was quick to defend himself against accusations of negligence:

“The car wasn’t even locked, and I was only gone for two goddamn minutes,” claimed Dan Heller, the owner of the Suzuki car and LP records.
“People are calling this guy a hero, and all I see is someone who fucked up my car and tried to steal my ****.”

Well on a more serious note, I remember in the 1970s our local public library had displayed in the front window a vinyl record that had perished in the back of a car. This was supposed to be stern warning as to what would happen. And these were the days when cars here in Australia - at hot as it is - very rarely had air conditioning. Air conditioning was a very rare luxury - the choice of the elite, along with window tinting and other vinyl-friendly car accessories. I guess it would not surprise anyone then, that this poor vinyl record in the front window looked like a black, withered lettuce. Rather ironic too, that it was Strauss's Alpine Symphony...
