The brief is Canadian owner Doug Putman has appeared in the UK this week to conduct a thinly veiled 'reminding them of oneself' campaign publicly highlighted by announcement of HMV's 1921 Records vinyl only label. With the launch promoting signing of it's first artist, India Arkin of Newcastle, instating a focus on unknown UK popular artists who otherwise struggle to gain notice on streaming or through social media promotion.

HMV was bought out of administration in 2019 and was shortly after forced to shutter its stores for several months during the pandemic. Coming out of this period focus is being given towards providing a venue for live music and exclusive releases - grassroots - without turning away from the larger industry. Though of negligible interest to most WBF members. HMV has a long and storied history through its stores and numerous iterations of the HMV label.
