If you had $20K to spend, what would you buy in audio?

Nice piano sound on your videos, Don!

I agree. The presentation comes through as very direct, more dry with less ambience.

I also note that these videos are from your digital source, consistent with my comments in my system thread that natural sound does not mandate analog sources.

Keep the videos coming, perhaps in some of the dedicated threads which might generate more discussion beyond the $20,000 price point.

Thank you Peter!

Yes, the piano videos were being played from my digital source. However, Lola's violin cadenza video was from my vinyl source. I certainly enjoy listening to both my digital side as well as my vinyl side of my system. Indeed, there are great recordings on both formats! With that being said, I spend probably 80% of my listening sessions with vinyl.... probably because I have a lot of really great, minty pressings

I had an audio friend over for a listening session. In these instances, I always allow my guest to select the playlist - giving them the opportunity to listen to whatever they would like to hear from my music collection, whether it be vinyl or digital. It's all about their enjoyment :)

My friend happened to select the piano pieces and because Bonzo had asked for videos of piano music, I thought I might as well record these while we were at it. When I have time, I will try and record some of the other things he had suggested as well.

That's a great suggestion about posting some of these videos to the dedicated threads. I will try and remember to do that as well.

I appreciate everyone's comments in regards to these old vintage speakers. They sure are enjoyable to listen to.

Best wishes,
Don

I thought the idea was a complete system for $20,000?

No what would you buy for 20k.

You are confusing with Ron's thread of system for 10k.

+1 I agree Peter, these nice recordings will get lost on this thread about spending.
At the same time, some bots who stop by here as this is a non-video thread will wonder how come this sub-1000 USD speaker without a purpose built room and no subs is playing this complicated-violin-piece-they-have-never-heard so realistically - maybe then the safe conclusion is videos can't be right.

He charges $2,250 per day I believe so maybe you get 9 days with a slight discount.
Hi Lee,

I went through this thread and don’t see anyone asking what the size of your room is. The room volume is imo the most important question in deciding speaker size. In small rooms monitors can load the room completely and provide incredible bass. A larger speaker may sound bloated and slow.

Also do you have room for a large speaker, like the Pure Audio Project or prefer a smaller or narrower footprint. How close to the walls do your speakers need to be from the back or can they come out into the room.

Finally what type of music do you prefer and on what format? Are you a streamer, use vinyl or have a huge cd collection that you like to play from the disc? Any of those questions changes the system completely.

My room is 15 x 20 x 11. I listen to all formats and all music genres. I have 6,000 CDs and SACDs, and presently 3,810 records.

If starting fresh I would suggest MBL 126’s with plugged ports and add Kef active subs k62 or k92 dependent upon room size. That’s $18k. Add a Chinese burmester 909 circuit clone and Cary pre clone and you’re at 20k all in. Have extra pocket change? Invest in the Atmasphere MP-3 preamp with phono stage- you’ll thank me later. Add mogami balanced mic cords from pre to amp and short runs of twisted pairs of cloth covered copper solid 16ga conductor to the speakers and enjoy.

Thanks but I already have a kickass stereo.
