Is there a HiFi Mafia controlling what we discuss and talk about in HiFi?

I cover several recent actions that has me wondering if there is a coordinated attempt to suppress differing opinions on hifi gear other than the "approved" online talking points.

Just my personal thoughts and opinions for entertainment only and no accusation in intended nor implied in any way (Please dCS don't threaten to sue me).

There is a global conspiracy to bad mouth and ultimately do away with analog.

This piece of gear is crap
It's <SOME TEXT MISSING>
You see, no censorship really.

Hey.........nice system you got there, @Synaxis
Maybe we could move on to different focus here.

I think it's hilarious that people purposely ignore the $1500 the big guy charges to cover content shows (or he won't cover you), or the $600 the guys who "aren't in this full time" charge for pay for play coverage of gear and show rooms, or how the latest anti-Borreson video was because Borreson refused to make him a dealer.

Heck, even Ron relayed a story about one yesterday.

But talk about what we all know, and the people clamoring loudest for "honest" review and conversations are the first ones to try and shut down the conversation.

Thankfully I do my own topics and videos for my own enjoyment and not others. :) If you don't like the topic, then don't read / participate in it.

Merry Christmas.

I've read this elsewhere too. If true, the hobby would shrink even more. I would leave the hobby if vinyl was somehow "done away with". Fortunately, my LPs are mine, and no one else controls that or my ability to play them. Physical media is good.

Peter, you don’t take the referred to comment seriously, do you?

I saw the anti- Borreson video you’re referring to. It was a disingenuous hatchet job imho. How do you know he was turned down as a dealer?

I was told by two different sources in-the-know.

I think the advent of digital was a concerted effort to change formats for the masses. And I think streaming as a delivery method has also been a concerted effort. That way there’s no physical media and someone else is in control and there is an endless subscription based revenue stream. It doesn’t affect our generation that has collected. But the music industry is basically not getting any money from me because I buy used records and listen to what I already own and keep.

Yes, people are still making records and designing cartridges and turntables, but it’s not how most people listen to music anymore and I think that is partly by design and partly because of market forces.

That’s pretty bad… as he spends the whole vid trashing Borreson!

The premise of his hour+ video was based on criticizing Borreson for dumping older models on the used market indicating that the brand was weak and overpriced.

He then, predictably uses the opportunity to pump a brand he carries by stating with great authority:

“Payback Designs is never on the used market because people keep it. They don’t sell it.”

A quick scan of hifi shark shows 47 listings
for Playback Designs and 52 for Borreson.

The lesson: beware of the guy who tells you everybody, but him, is lying to you.

I pointed out this simple fact in his comments. Lo and behold, I find it has been mysteriously erased!

It's also funny he did a video on rebranded gear that was marked up on price, YET he promoted a $3,500 tube amp that could be bought on Ali for $500. He got called out pretty fierce on that one as people were posting links to the exact unit calling him out.

Agreed. As I say in my videos the ONLY person looking out for you....is you.

The more someone states to "trust them" on "they are on your side" the less I trust that person.

The current digital music distribution business won't survive much longer IMO. The product is mostly low quality and the vast majority of artists make little money.
