Dear all has anyone tried this technique? I read about this awhile ago and was wondering if anyone has tried it? I had a small dedicated room and a pile of old magazines which i don't want to discard - hence the lightbulb over my head

it would have some merit as a bass trap; but would be unpredictable. and it would have a tendency to deaden the bass and absorb articulation. kinda like a random piece of furniture.....except more dense.

OTOH it's free other than the back ache to move them (maybe twice). so try it and let us know what you think.

i do wonder how Valin's and Fremer's reviews would compare as bass trap material?

Compressed (when stacked) paper isn't going to make an effective bass trap. Its not porous. I suppose if the stack was REALLY tall and pushed right into the corner it might lessen the tendency for the corner to horn load wavelengths shorter than the horizontal depth of the magazine stack. Of course when the teetering magazine stack tips over and wipes out the adjacent loudspeaker you aren't likely to appreciate that likely negligible benefit...

A poor man's bass trap is stacks of large tape sealed cardboard boxes moderately packed with crumpled newspaper in the room corners. Not as effective as proper mineral or fiberglass wool bass traps but at least this one works and is based on sensible acoustic principals.

This is a forum guys.
I am sure i read about his somewhere - may even have been the cardas website.
I assume a bass trap. Pretty pointless diffusing in that location.

Look guys - this COVID 19 is making me stir crazy - so you guys are the unfortunate recipients.
