MCB & other Breakers : Not to be ignored when perfecting audio powerlines

When I read the Tweak Forum and Power Forum of WBF, I notice that there are many discussions on building dedicated powerlines for home audio and AV systems.
WBF brothers talked about 130V vs 240V ; selection of in-wall cables ; different wall-sockets and even installing huge transformer filters such as those from Torus or Equi=tech.

However, there is not much mention on audiophile grade breakers.
https://www.elprocus.com/difference-between-mcb-mccb-elcb-rccb/
On the contrary, audiophile grade breaker is one of the most important factors to consider when Hong Kong audiophiles are building their home audio powerlines!
:)

N Am and European audiophiles should have known some of the brands such as Isoclean.
Isoclean buys germany-made breakers, dissembles and gold-plates them then polishes the metallic parts.
Their Zero Ohm Breaker-box and breakers look magnificent!

In Hong Kong there are many other local brands which are unknown to western countries.
These brands treat the breakers either by cryogenic treatment with or without prior heating, or by passing very short yet very high voltage current via the metallic parts.
Some brands imitate Isoclean and plate the metallic parts with sliver or rhodium.

Let me share with you how a good friend of mine in Hong Kong tweaked his home audio powerlines :
He lives in an unit inside a multi-floors apartment building.
Inside the 'electrical supply room' of each floor, there is a breaker-box supplying the several units on that floor.
You can see that this floor common breaker-box looks very old and heavily dusted.
The breakers inside must be several decades old.
o_O

Therefore one of his powerline tweak steps was to replace the breaker of his unit in this floor common breaker-box.

Following that, he tweaked the break-box inside his apartment unit :

Up to this point, you may query whether the brands of audiophile breakers in Hong Kong are reliable or not?
Are they compliant with international safety standards?

Actually I would like to recommend to you the black colour breaker in the above photo. It's the Gigawatt G-C20A MCB.
The newer current models are a bit different :

http://www.gigawatt.eu/produkt/circuit-breaker-gigawatt-g-c16a-2p/

breaker-16A-txt.jpg

Gigiwatt is well-known to be an audiophile power product specialist. They commissions Carling Technologies, a near-100 yrs old USA industrial company to make these breakers in accordance to Gigawatt's special requests.
http://www.carlingtech.com/company-history

All Gigawatt breakers conform with European norms, requirements, directives and technical approvals (CE, VDE).

But most important of all, they give the best sonic performance when compared to the other local HK brands, particularly in terms of dynamics, authority, resolution and musicality.
How do we know that? It's because my friend is super itchy and has kept on changing the breakers in his home breaker-box!

I highly recommend these Gigawatt breakers to WBF brothers.
However, please check with your local electrical technicians. These breakers are applicable to HK and some European countries but may not be so for all places in N Am.

Enjoy! ;)

Dear Ckkeung, last time you even mentioned some of the hi-end CB box manufacture from HK. Can you repost this?

Have you try grounding the CB box or other tweaks?

Hello Hieukm,
Concerning the so-called cryo-treated fusebox/breakerbox, the metallic chassis is less important and doesn't need cryo treatment.

It's their conducting metallic busbars (connecting the RCCB and MCB) which need cryo treatment.

For example, these busbars made by SINE are gold-plated then cryo treated.

But of course customers usually buy the chassis from SINE too, to make sure that the busbars can be easily installed into the breakerbox.

Yes, I have applied some tweaks on my home breakerbox.

This is my separate breakerbox dedicated to my 4 audio powerlines.
Made by Hager, but the busbars are cryo treated.

I attach a Taiko Audo Setchi D2 onto the connecting metallic chassis.

I also ground the chassis to another traditional groundbox. You can see the groundwire in the photo.

CK, have you plans of changing to the Gigawatt breaker?

I have tried them on your recommendation and like them alot.

They are seem to provide more energetic sound compare to others i have tried, namely Telos fuse breaker(which it replaced). Also Hager, ABB, Siemens and a few i cannot remembwr.

All impact the presentation quite drastically for me and larbe enough to become easy to pick a favourite breaker.

Yes, I will do so soon.

BTW my current RCCB and MCB are from the German brand Condor.
They were cryo treated.

What traditional groundbox is that? Entreq or Nordost?

Only a cheap made-in-China Aucharm.
Because the Setchi D2 is performing very well already.
Don't want to invest too much. :)

Hello,

I receive today the Gigawatt Circuit Breaker G-C16A and after having replaced the AHP big fuse I'm very happy listening my system. The sound becomes more energetic, no doubt.

IMG_2265.jpg IMG_2255.JPG IMG_2252.JPG

I suposse it needs some break in but the first impression is really good.
I'm still waiting for the Doepke residual circuit breaker to come.

Cheers.

Thanks CK big brother, our local electricians always according to building code. I don’t think those Breakers qualifies our country residence use . I can’t get any products info in USA while google search. I just want find out more knowledge then I can discuss with the electrician to build it. Just in case some brothers already setup in 120V then will be great.

I guess the Gigawatt MCB may be compatible if you have some 240V powerlines.

The Doepke RCCB is more tricky. Please email the company for opinions.

Hi Guys, to restate and expand on Bitginsius question above, does anyone know if either the two pole or one pole version of these audiophile breakers offer drop in replacement for Seimens, Cutler Hemmer or other breakers designed for North American Panelboxes?

It looks like a hot item which many H.K forumers are talking about the Platinum plated cyrogenically treated MCB and RCB's over Gigawatt MCB's and Deoepke RCB's most recently.

After checking with both manufacturers, Didn’t get any reply from GigaWatt. Doepke replied DFS 2 F Audio is not available for 60Hz. Disregard this project plan
