Melco just launched a new audiophile S100 :
https://www.melco-audio-masters.com/uploads/1/0/1/5/101505220/mel_2073_s100_a4_2pp_info_sheet_v3.pdf

It's very well-built :

I want to borrow one for home trial but has not been successful because the dealer which takes care of Hong Kong is located inside Mainland China.
:(

Luckily there is a separate Melco dealer in Taiwan and one of the most popular audio webzines in Taiwan : My-HiEND has published a Melco S100 review.
And compared it with the SOtM sNH-10G switch!

Here is the link :

This is an intereating review because it compared the two switches in a blind test method.
There is no English version so please read it with google translate.

Did they use stack SoTM or just single?
Interesting comparison. Both are different sounding according to the blind test

Looks interesting. About US$2k which i guess puts it in the middle of the uptone and telegarten.

Thanks Peter. What about the power supply for both units during the comparison?
Not mentioned, but I guess each were using their respective included switching powersupplies.

I guess the net price of Melco S100 may be as low as around usd1400 in HK.

I'm expecting to receive my S100 (Japanese version) in a week or two, CKKeung and hols could feel free to borrow mine and "boil" that for me before you guys start experimenting with all kinda double-stacking / triple-stacking combos with / without feeding OP20 to sNH-10G
  • sNH-10G ? S100
  • S100 ? sNH-10G
  • S100 ? sNH-10G #1 ? sNH-10G #2
  • sNH-10G #1 ? S100 ? sNH-10G #2
  • sNH-10G #1 ? sNH-10G #2 ? S100
I ordered that from Japan when they're knocking 15% off everything available on Rakuten last month. Take as much time as you guys want since I'm still deciding what PSU do I wanna get for S100, it's ONLY capable of accepting DC 12V so please don't fry that with anything else. About a year ago hols also tested my Melco D10 and the same DC cable + 12V PSU combo will also work for S100.

For 1Gbps connections, either SFP or RJ-45 ports could be tested and therefore comparing both of them should be fun. Besides, 100Mbps and 1Gbps ports might also sound different so let's see how it goes.

BTW, here's an interesting comparison among S100 / Telegärtner M12 Switch Magic / Telegärtner M12 Switch IE GOLD but it's way too short as well as written in Japanese

http://yoshidaen.net/hotstuff/2019126dela-s100/

Too bad Ben Sir only imported Telegärtner cables but not their switches, and then Dave didn't get any demo units from JCAT since they're costing so much. Most likely we don't have any owners of Telegärtner / JCAT switches here in HK, otherwise it's gonna get even more exciting.

I'll let hols know once I've got my S100 and fingers crossed.

But I am sure Hols, our most itchy friend will do the comparison.
Shall invite you to join the audition gathering for sure!

All the three audiophile switches are in the den of hols.

They will be judged individually and also in dual-switches configs : SOtMx2, SOtM-S100, SOtM-ER and maybe S100+ER too.

The Dela/Melco S100 is being burned-in for the coming direct comparison :

S100 x2? ;)
Sorry, there is no Dela/Melco dealer in HK.
The Melco dealer is in Mainland China.

Luckily seeteeyou bought a S100 directly from Japan and lent it to us for testing.
So we got one S100 only.

Thx CKK and looking forward for the report.
As a budget user like many others, I'm especially interested in the comparison of the 3 lowest cost config, ER / s100 / sotm, and how they justify for each increment of price.

First 24hrs with the S100 and I already prefer it to a single upgraded SoTM non-clocked. IMO, the sound is less colored/more natural, more detailed, and seems to originate from a quieter background. More to come....

Hello RGMD11,
Sorry, I have been very busy at work lately and don't have chance to listen to and compare the three switches at my friend hols' music room.

However he told me about his preliminary impression which wss again : we get what we pay for.
;)

The net price of the full-optioned SOtM switch in HK is around usd2000 (no vat in HK).
The Melco S100 is actually only around usd300 cheaper. So it's still a pricy audiophile switch but since it doesn't have an external clock input so owners may save some money because of that.

I made a quick video of another audio centric switch and have some questions. What does the Melco do that other switches do not? They say a bunch of stuff in their marketing blurb but they simply don't come out and say what problem they solve.
