Hello -

Nice player!

Do you have sitting on a 19X21 HRS platform? Assuming so, does it for within it, or do the reels hang over?

Reels look like they have to hang over. I'm curious the benefit of a platform. I hear tape is not sensitive to vibration??? But is it. Lots of decks are in stands that are not damped at all like the HRS Platforms. Including mine. I like my stand as I can tilt it down for easy tape loading and tilt it up for easy head cleaning. But ultimately I want performance.

It came a few days ago I haven't even set it up yet.

This looks beautiful. The larger Papillon has an accessory to allow for head direct out so that an external head preamp can be used. Is this option available for the Tourbillon ? I prefer to have everything balanced, and preferably with tubes for amplification. A dual capstan machine with state of the art microprocessor control should be very special.

Tang what is your conclusion on the Metaxis?
I like practicality of Studer and ATR machine. Anyone with average proficiency on these machine can guide tape from start of putting reel in hub til press rewind in 10 seconds. The Metaxis hub comes in two pieces with one oring for you to "screw" in to lock the tape reel. Studer and ATR has locking hub that secure reel tightly in a second. When you guide tape through tape head section, the gap to handle tape through is small and zigzag. It takes extra time to do this. It took me no less than 2 minutes to do the job. May be if proficient it takes less time. This seems like a small issue and bitchy complaint but if you listen a lot of tape you know the process should be done in 6-7 seconds. Tape already requires a long time rewinding. In the video and picture Andro showed, the cnc and all that seem very robust. It is robust until you hear the mechanical sound of parts moving in action. Unfortunately, I may not know how to operate the machine properly I had to send it back. It would not be fair to comment on sonic. My nice dealer recorded the video showing the machine operated just fine after I sent back to him.

your Studer is a 10th (or more) generation of Studer evolution of transport design and build. by 6 or 7 they were pretty good. by 10 they were the best. same for Ampex.

Metaxas only has 3 or 4 more generations to figure it out....then another 2 or 3 to perfect it. which does not mean it might not be a good quality playback deck. i have read positive things about it.
