How are you doing everyone? My first post, I'm an expat from Massachusetts living in Lima, Peru. I just bought a Tascam 44OB from my brother-in-law out here who wanted a stereo deck not a 4 track, this had been totally restored at a very good place in CA in 2016 right before he bought it so it's in very nice condition. I found this place through a google query for reel to reel pancakes which brought me to a video which showed how and how easy it looks to transfer them to reels. I also have just learned about Tape Shed Syndrome from two Ampex 456 tapes he gave me, one is good, the other is shedding and is virtually useless so I need to buy some new tape which I how I found out about reel to reel pancakes.
Anyway, I recorded a Procol Harum Live with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra CD onto the good real and it sounds amazing to me. I'm a lifelong musician and have what I feel are pretty good ears for music. I just bought a remote control for it tonight and am running it through the Pioneer rack system I have using the Monitor Bronze 500 speakers.
Incidentally I'm a lifelong bassist and have been using 300 watt all tube Ampeg SVT bass amps for at least 45 years.

Welcome, I own two of the 44ob's that I use for duplicating 1/4 track 7 1/2 ips tapes. They do a great job.

Thanks, yeah, I'd like to pick up another restored one at some point and record bands, mine and others. I'm amazed at how good this thing sounds.

A company in France has picked up the tape manufacturing brand BASF. Here is a link:

I own a lot of this tape and its the best I've ever heard. I also own their Fox C90 cassette tapes and they are also amazing. If you buy this tape you should get your deck correctly calibrated for it, the deck won't sound its best if you don't.
