New to Vintage components and having grounding issues. Please advise.

Pic of the back of the TT.

Bill-Since the turntable was designed to be grounded to avoid hum issues and there is currently no ground wire attached, it seems like a logical place to start. Having said that, he was asked to change the input on his receiver to something besides phono and see if the hum is still present. We haven't heard back on that yet.

There is only hum when the TT is being used and it's in BOTH channels. No hum with radio, cassette or aux. This is the best pic I have. You'll notice a small hole next to the RCA inputs on the right. From what I've gathered, it's specifically for a ground wire. It seems the most logical reason for the hum. I have seen ground wires specifically made for turntables but I can't locate one for this specific Technics.

I truly hope you guys can help me find a solution. Again, thanks for taking your time to help a newbie. This forum is wonderful!

I'm pretty sure your hum problem exists because you don't have a ground wire. That hole that is present next to the RCA jacks probably had a ground post there and was broken off. If I'm seeing correctly, it looks like there is still a metal connection in there that the post was actually connected to. Do a google search for SL-Q200 images and see if you can get a screen shot of the back. You might also post the picture you took on Audiogon's Forum if you can't find a good picture of the back and ask someone who still owns this table to take a picture of the back for you. The bottom line is that you need to reconnect a ground wire from the point where it used to exist and connect it to your receiver and your hum issue should disappear.
