No place here for scotch, so how about some red blends?

There are many new blends that are just plain nice on the pallet. I've been a merlot and cab fan for many years, but in the last few I've been exploring the malbec, meritage, and amarone blends.

One that comes to mind at the moment is Sartori di Verona, Estate Collection, Amarone 2004. This is wine for wine people (read not newbies). It is complex with layers of smoke, leather and tobacco. So if you like your wine full and meaty, pick up a bottle, let it breathe a bit and then sit back and enjoy.

I fully agree, blends for me are a matter of time and opportunity - there are some south american blends with up to five different grapes that are just fabulous.
