Bob

I'm a little surprised at your predictions that you are based on movies you have never seen.

Just like many on the forum who opine on gear they have not heard

I was stunned that Bradley Cooper and Ryan Coogler (Black Panther) were not nominated for director but Spike Lee was. Shows you why I don't play Lotto.

I would take black klannsman over panther many times over. Haven't seen star is born yet

You have the wrong person, and this thread is not about starting a fight.
If you want to start a fight Ked, go somewhere else. I'm in no mood.
If you want to talk Oscars you are very welcome.

I am not talking at you Bob, I replied to Steve's post with a general dig at forum posters

Where to Stream All the 2019 Oscar-Nominated Movies
_____

It's funny; I first counted 49 films total, then I recounted twice more and I got 50. I missed one the first time.
Then I checked three different sources, with one saying 51, the other 52, and the last 53.
I give up; it's somewhere between 50 and 53. Maybe some were omitted, or maybe some were counted twice ...

On Green Book; recorded tapes from the two real Don Shirley and Tony Lip.
https://deadline.com/2019/01/green-...io-mahershala-ali-viggo-mortensen-1202541392/

Those are not the best quality sound recordings but good enough to understand very well what they're saying. It is fascinating; it makes you appreciate the film even more so.

Roma is still the grand favorite among the majority of film experts, and the other films that are mentioned here and then are ... BlacKkKlansman, The Favourite and occasionally Green Book.

8,000 Academy voters (roughly) are going to vote. If the majority of them saw what I saw, Roma is going to get the Oscar for Best Picture and Best Director and Best Cinematography and Best Foreign Language Film.

I don't know the importance of those movie stats when it comes to predicting the Oscar winners, but in Hollywood stats don't mean much @ all; anything goes.
http://www.awardsdaily.com/2019/02/04/new-hollywood-old-hollywood-and-the-future/

It's a good read, by Sasha Stone
And there are comments @ the end of her article.

To have an overall and accurate view from all the 8,000 Academy voters, is like an eagle circling the skies above among all the drones.

For my vote Roma hands down wins Best Foreign Film but not Best Picture. It certainly has a chance but IMO there were so many better films, It all depends on 8000 voters who just might think twice about Roma winning best Foreign film and Best Picture Oscars. He will win Best Director but it depends on the Academy members and that this was a Netflix film which still hasn't been accepted wholeheartedly in Hollywood

Steve are you going to be back from New Zealand on the 24th?

You are going in one of the most beautiful countries of our planet.

* I hope Oscars evening won't be like the Super Bowl show of yesterday.

For what it's worth with my two precious movie cents, foreign or not, Netflix or not, black and white or color, Roma was the Best Picture film of 2018, and Cold War number two, and Green Book number three. The rest is up to the 8,000 Academy voters like you've just said. It will be interesting and I'm looking forward to it, very.

May the best win from all corners. In my book you're the winner...New Zealand.

We just saw The Favourite and both liked it, I more than my wife.

The 3 women really had equal roles. I don't think Olivia Coleman was more of a leading actress than either Weisz or Stone.

Having said that, I stand firm with Glenn Close over Coleman for lead actress. I would also pick either Weisz or Stone over Regina King in Beale Street due, in part, to the depth of their roles.

I agree; there is no real demarcation line between who's the leading actress and who's the supporting actress in The Favourite.
It's an ensemble of three actresses, a team work interaction of skills with the material and time given.

Glenn Close is in the bag for Best Lead Actress.

For Best Supporting Actress; my own preferred choice is Marina de Tavira (Roma).
If she wins the Oscar I'll be writing a new song just for her.

* It's fun; all the jazz and classical music in the world, all the films from the globe, all the shows, the sports, the Super Bowls, the speeches of recent memories ...

No host this year @ the Oscars; that's different, very.

Who we like and who win are not always the same.
But then no two people are exactly the same either.
My favorite music composer is Johann Sebastian Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and Chopin.

The times that are coming up are going to be the good times, the best times of our lives ...

* Detainment is another Live Action Short Film nominated @ the Oscars.
It's a tough one, because the mother who lost her young enfant opposes to that short film nomination. I've read a lot about this entire story, and it raises serious questions.
It is extremely delicate and questions the culture, morality, society, rehabilitation, etc. of our values, ethics, integrity, reintegration, education, humanity, respect, positive advancement to improve our youngest teenager's deficiencies.
It is heartbreaking, not just the event itself but everything else related years and years after ...

Here's just a very brief perspective:

It's only from extensive reading on the case that you can decide rightly what's best.
...Meaning if it should have been nominated @ the Oscars or not.
There are two sides of the coin here; you decide for yourself which side is the right one.
Me I've already decided, but there is nothing I can do to remove it from the nominations.
But if you are familiar with the entire dilemma I certainly would be interested to hear your side.
And whether you agree or disagree.

It's part of the 2019 Oscars.
