The first release listed is CD by Verve in 2002. All CDs, first LP is 2011 by ORG

miglto wrote to me and believes that Live in Paris is an analog recording, as he believes that Al Schmitt did not start recording in digital until around 2007.

For what it's worth, and it's probably not worth much, I don't think a digital recording from 2001 would sound as good as what I hear on this ORG LP.

I was preparing to write to Al Schmitt directly and ask him about this matter, but he died three years ago.

Hahahaha the shit that gets posted
I think there is a way to analyze the source
and if
I’m correct there are those among us who can tell
Us.
Bruce for one lol.
Take it away Bruce

I play ”Live In Paris” on vinyl regularly, and it sounds amazing here… It sounds very much ”live” and ”alive” so to speak. A great album back and forth.

I rather listen to a studio than live album of hers. I find her voice to be too limited for a live performance. She benefits from more production offered by a studio recording...but that's just me. Check out her studio recordings as well and decide for yourself. Aside for my issue with her voice, that live album captures the concert ambiance, piano and rest of the musicians nicely.

She covers a lot of good songs.

Her voice is hard to capture , very nuanced with plenty inflictions , under powered systems will hear her shouty , too damped as bad tone , poor Timbre and she sounds nasal ..!

Just saying

What you stated is absolutely correct and Patricia barber is tough too.

Trouble is the masses feel it’s bad recordings.
I remember years back noticing shouts and not knowing why. Until a buddy explained why, then I proved it by lowering the volume just a few db. It’s very repeatable to prove.
you post a lot of truths and get ignored or something lol.
see Hopkins post lol.

I'm not talking about sound quality here.
I agree. She has a very limited range and she does not have the kind of control that would make other divas jealous.

Nevertheless she is very talented at the piano. And she is easy on the eyes. And the vocals work. The whole DK experience is enjoyable for most. Verve is nearly always a good bet.

I have the CD, and the two disk 45 rpm album. It is also on Qobuz. Last night I schlepped the two disk 45 rpm vinyl to the TT, and then realized that I was too tired to hop up and flip the record for four sides. So I plunked myself down in my chair, reclined, streamed it … and drifted off. Very nice

Not conclusive, but suggestive:

Live in Paris was recorded in 2001 by Al Schmitt. As of late 2007 Al was still recording primarily to analog tape.

Diana Krall live in Paris is a great record both performance wise and sound wise. At least from my perspective. And apparently many other people. One of the better live recordings.
I get some people don’t like her voice or music. I heard Peter Mcgraph ( sorry about spelling) of Wilson audio call her Diana scratch my fingers on blackboard. Lol. But I can’t disagree more. Have all her records on CD and LP. For the most part VERY well recorded and well performed. That’s part of what’s great about our hobby. We all have our own preferences!!!

Ron, why does it matter to you if the recording is analog or digital?
Because my starting philosophy is traditional purist. My starting philosophy is that all else being equal, nothing good comes from converting an analog waveform to digital and then back to analog to hear the music.

If you can not tell by listening to it
Where did I say I could not tell by listening to it? I was told it is a digital recording. The reason I started this inquiry is because it totally did not sound digital to me.

I will be interested to read which format it is when you determine the answer.

Having seen her live, I can understand how the full package in that setting is attractive. I don't find her voice harsh at home or live, but she just doesn't reach me. I do think the technical part of her singing has improved over time. As you say, all very personal. There are other well-considered singers (both male and female) who don't do it for me. Same with musicians. Luckily, many artists are making art and having streaming access to hundreds of thousands of albums never leaves one wanting.

Have you heard the Mofi UD One Steps? Some of the best remasters ever, A -> D-> A.

I believe it is an analog recording. A preponderance, at least, of the evidence points in that direction.
