I don't eat anything that comes from China, and make efforts to find out the source when attempts are made to obscure that it comes from China. (Feed for cattle, fish-farms, etc. in many instances have significant China-sourced components in it. Make the effort to find out what people are using.)
Yes, that worries me too. I used to love to go to seafood restaurants in China. They have live tanks with amazing seafood that you hand pick and they cook them for you. Then I told the story to someone from there who said to avoid it all costs due to heavy pollution where these fish come from :(.

I'm not averse to bottom feeders (what would happen to my Lobster-count then?). I prefer fish that have oil in them, or cod, cod tongues, roe, etc where I know the source. I eat Tuna, swordfish, etc - but not frequently, due to the possibility of a higher mercury content in these.
That's my problem. Having learned to love fish from eating a lot of Japanese meals where high fat content is praised, it is hard for me to pass up on fatty fish and especially the belly portion that unfortunately seems to have the most pollution. It is a shame that as humans we have turned the most healthy and useful portion of the fish (the fat) into something that holds the toxins we throw in the water!

BTW - there is nothing like fishing, whether at sea or in lakes and rivers. Highly recommended, and preparing your own meal from fresh fish is a joy.
For as long as I remember, I have wanted to learn to fish properly but have never spent the time to really do it and have success at it. This season I am determined to make progress. Pictures will follow if I do :).

Good to see so many people into fishing. Wonder if it makes sense to have a thread or two on it here...

maybe a whats best in hunting/fishing. i count myself as one of the many in denial re food safety and fish. I cant go a week without a chirashi lunch or omakase a few times a month. i look at all the centenarians in Japan that only eat local caught fish and figure it can be all that bad.

untill a few years ago i was on the water 30+ days a year. i layed off long-range because of arthitis impacting my joints, im loosing strength in my wrists and knees. I dont take many pics but the one below was off a website from an 18-day trip i was on, im third from the left. we only target giant yellowfin tuna and whaoo on these trips. this is old school stand-up style fishing, no belts, harnesses or fighting chairs of any kind. mano-a-mano - just you and the beast. i still have peacok bass fisihng in the Amazon on my bucket list, we'll go when my eldest hits his teens.

Great stories guys. What I would give for the belly of that yellowfin! The toxins be damned. :D :D :D So what it does it cost to go on a charter like that?
