I purchased lightly used pair of Spendor D7's a couple of years ago based upon reviews from forums and magazines and the sound of these speakers is night and day different than the reviews. I freely admit to being a British snob from the late 70's/early 80's. The upper midrange on these Spendors is bleached white and the highs while clean are simply too hot for my listening pleasure and music catalog. I am considering stepping up to the Gershman Avant Gard's or maybe the QLN Prestige 5's, but having never heard them, due to no support in my area, I am a little gun shy to even waste my time travelling to try them.
Somewhere along my audiophile journey, the norm has become to hot for me and digitized sounding. I long for the style of the late 70's/early 80's but with modern advancements in sound, but still with analogue liquidity. Did I miss my bus somewhere along this ride?
