The Feature documentary Summer of Soul is now available in the theaters and on Hulu. This film about 'the Black Woodstock" is spectacular and will surely earn it's director Questlove (Ahmir Thompson) an Oscar nomination for best director. Everything about this movie is superb, from the film footage of the Harlem Concerts held over several nights in the summer of 1969, the film editing, the beautiful and masterful direction with footage of the era intertwined in the movie, to the performances themselves. And those performances!!! Some are beyond the beyondo. The Mahalia Jackson and Mavis Staples duet alone is worth the price of admission, but Stevie Wonder steals the show. I don't think I ever appreciated the extent of his talent as a pure musician like I do now after seeing his performances on drums and keyboard in these film clips. David Ruffin, Gladys Knight, and BB King were all exceptional and Sly and the Family Stone brought down the house. Don't miss it! This is not only a wonderful film but the story Questlove tells is an important one.

I just don't understand how this footage could remain hidden all these years. Beggars belief.
