I received this LP today. Of course I can't play it. The tracks include some of her most popular songs.

I have high hopes for the recording quality!

Has anybody played this album yet? How does it sound?

I haven’t listened to her since her very depressing ‘Solitude Standing’. That album was just so sad.

After sampling ‘An evening...’ on my phone, I will give it a listen when I get home.

It is available on Qobuz (and probably Tidal as well) so you can give it a listen

You gave up quickly on her
Solitude Standing was her second Album out of ten up until now

That's funny, it's likely her most loved album :)

Some difficult subject matter in places but more melancholy than depression for the most part for me

I saw her play the album in full a year or so ago, that and 99.9 deg delivered with great power, she can rock when she wants to. After she finished the albums she called for requests and a very excited young girl got up and described how she'd been named Luka after the song her parents loved. Vega was visibly taken aback that someone would name their child after a song dealing with abuse and didn't pursue the conversation. An awkward and interesting reaction.

I had a wonderful evening listening to music with KeithR tonight! (And Keith makes a very serious homemade marinara sauce. I thought homemade sauce meant heating up a jar of sauce at home. I find the kitchen to be a hostile and dangerous environment. Except for the refrigerator. I have never been injured by a refrigerator.)

I brought this LP over to Keith, and we played several tracks from it.

If I didn't know better (and I didn't know better) I would have believed this is an analog recording. I heard no dryness, no menthol sensation, no digititis, no vocal sharpness -- I didn't hear any telltale sign of a digital recording.

Suzanne's voice sounded great. I am very surprised that a digital recording of vocals sounds this good.

I realize it almost certainly has to be a digital recording (who would drag a reel to reel tape deck to a cabaret venue?), but I sent an email to Fernando Lodeiro, the recording engineer, and asked him if this is an analog or a digital recording.

My copy arrived Thursday and I'm looking forward to listening this weekend. I also have high hopes for the vinyl, it having been recommended on Progzilla radio of all places, by a vinyl fanatic

Fernando Lodeiro, the recording engineer on this album, replied:

Hi Mr Resnick,
Nice to e-meet you and thank you for the kind words. It was a fun project to record.
It was recorded digitally. I just had a little corner behind the FOH mixer where I was able to setup my equipment so it was a very simple setup but it was exactly what I wanted to use for that situation.
Thank you for writing and for listening!

Ron,
A solid purchase; well recorded, the music is superb and she clearly is in top form. I still prefer Lou Reed's version of Walk on The Wild Side but her cover is entertaining.
It's a lovely journey through Ms. Vega's back catalogue, beautifully delivered. Her music has held up well. A solid investment.
Remind to play a side or two for you when you visit us.
Thanks for sharing,
Philip

Dear Philip,

Thank you for commenting!

I, too, prefer Lou Reed's rendition of "Walk on the Wild Side." But I appreciate that Suzanne sang it straight, and didn't try to impose her own artistic or editorial view upon the song.

I would love to hear it on the Trident IIs!

Out of curiosity, have you heard a digital recording of vocals reproduced on vinyl which sounds less digital or more natural than this particular recording?

Agreed. Thoroughly enjoyed it and no regrets in the purchase. Agree with you and Ron re 'Wild Side, though I do not find hers in away poor, just different. Similar to 'Fields of Gold’ sung by Eva Cassidy. I can't say that for many covers.
