This remarkable film will have its West Coast premiere tomorrow Feb 7 at the International Jewish Film Festival in San Diego. It will be preceded by a presentation by jazz film archivist Mark Cantor. The film will be shown again but without the presentation on Feb 10 and 13. You may ask why this film is being part of the Jewish Film Festival. Blue Note founders Alfred Lion and Francis Wolff were two Jews who escaped Nazi Germany in 1939 to establish the pinnacle of jazz culture in the US through the many talented jazz musicians they promoted and elevated in an unparalleled series of recordings in the 50’s and 60’s. Here are links to the film’s website (watch the trailer) and to the JFF website where you can purchase tickets.
