Ripping off is different than re-introducing parts or even whole of something in another context. Second one has been all over arts for a long time. Sampling is a great way of doing it in music. However, if you do it like Led Zeppelin did, playing covers and posing as writers of the song than that is ripping off for sure! It is worse than what Vanilla Ice did! In the end they payed a hefty sum to Willie Dixon too...
