So, I'm trying to get my head around streaming ahead of a purchase next year.

I was a giraffe/dinosaur/*insert any applicable animal metaphor*, w my head in the sand in saying no to streaming.

Now my head is out, but in the branches/foliage/*insert any applicable vegetation obscuring metaphor*, as I'm open to the concept, but can't see my way thru.

I'd love to consider SGM, but lack of funds, and as importantly, lack of prediction as to how far I'll get into streaming (no idea if I'll find 5, 50, 500, 5000 albums not on lp), means I'd like to kick off in a pretty low key way.

I mean, no lp fan bypassed a Rega 2 or 3 to go straight to an SME 30 on day one.

What I'm struggling with mainly at the moment is the proliferation of boxes at the cheaper end of the market. No argument w specialist LPS on 7 and 12V streamers.

No, it's things like Sonore Rendu USB boxes. I've seen Roon Nucleus and Euphony PTS reviews where the USB is boosted by Rendu.

First, how does one know whether a dac is best served by USB, AES/EBU, I2S, or even BNC?

And if it's indeed USB, why the need for USB booster?

Looking at Small Green Computer, their smart looking i7 Roon server is $1750. But it needs the 2x pricier $3500 UltraRendu to provide best USB to a USB dac.

As someone who's sat on the fence for so long getting splinters, this consideration fills me w the very opposite of joy.
