Thanks for the clip, my old job was in the coatings industry. The closest thing we had to this was a UV cured coating with black pigment and a powder that simulated a velvet texture. However the UV curing process limited how much black pigment you could add, too much and it didn't cure.

Reminds me of this Tate installation from Miroslaw Balka in 2010 where walking into the box you only realise the end when you hit it as you can’t see it.

The not other truly dark place I visited was a crystal cave outside Tulum, Mexico.

It first came to me via my deep interest in HDR (High Dynamic Range) technological advancements for the truest and deepest blacks in motion pictures...UHD 4K and 8K TVs, and film cameras.
