What does pin symbol in thread title mean

I never noticed this before. What does it represent?

It means... the post is pinned to the top of the sub-forum page. They will still slowly move downwards as new content usurps their place on the "Latest Activity" page for example.

In order to post this thread in the General forum you had to load a page with three pinned threads on the top of it.
