What is the best speaker you have ever owned ?????

There are two F-112s in the system wich consist of a Plinius SA-250 MK1V Amplifier with two Promitheus mono preamps and a Ayon CD-1 modified cd player i have joined a link on all models of Acoustat speakers http://www.audiocircuit.com/Home-Audio/Acoustat there are the 6 foot models and 8 foot models from 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 6 - 8 - panels per side mine are the smallest 8 foot talll model 1+1s wich means 2 panels stacked verticaly my friend Jocelyn as Spectra 8800s wich are 8 panels stacked verticaly 4+4 normal height for ALL double stacked Acoustat's is 94 inches high but his are taller because of the all metal frame.

PS: When on the audiocircuit link click on ELECTROSTATIC SPEAKERS for ALL the models.

THanks! Quite an impressive array of equipment there! Must sound incredible...presume these speakers require an enormous room, to say nothing of ceiling height?

After having them for about 2 weeks now I would say the Genesis G7.1f is the best speaker I have ever owned.

Certainly much better (IMHO) than your Totems (not a criticism of Totems, though); what else have you owned that might be close?

Glad to hear it's not a criticism of Totem, although that's certainly allowed, but I always liked them and still do. Can't really compare the two as they are so very different.

In decades past I've owned Altec Lansing Stonehenge and Celestion Ditton 66, which were probably the best in the past, but I really enjoyed the pair of Klipsch Heresy's I owned. Nothing I've owned in the past compares to the G7.1f's though. I am very much enamored with them!

Glad to hear it John! I hope they continue to bring you much happiness.

I bought a pair of these in 1981 as a freshman in college. The store sold Snell, NAD, ect. It was my first entry into a salon. They also sold AR. My audio mentor owner AR9s and I went there to hear something more affordable along the same lines. The tiny A40s next to (heavily discounted) AR90s were like opening an oil-smeared window and looking out into the world. I was shocked and, well, sold. If it weren't for the little Bostons, I may have forever languished in the land of mid-fi, aspiring to own a pair of Carver Cubes, as I did weeks earlier. So, in some very significant ways, it's the best speaker I've ever heard.

Felix - What a great story and a different angle on why you feel they were the best you ever heard! I'm starting to shed a tear for my very first pair of Radio Shack Minimus speakers I boguht when I was like 17. Haha!

On on absolute level, my Scaena 3.2s. I am a dealer for these so take that as you want, but bought before I started selling them.

For value: the VMPS RM40s. Embarrasses so many more expensive speakers, had to jump to the Scaenas to get something significantly better.

Underrated speakers I've owned: ATC actives and Amphions.

Never owned but always think are killer values when I hear: Magnepans. So much nore 'live-like' than most speakers out there.

Actually there are a number of speakers in the $25k and up range that are noticeably better :p

I have not listened to the Q1 time enough to have an opinion, but some people are becoming very fond of them and a cult seems to be starting. The editor of our national magazine on audio (named Audio :)) raved about them and, supreme heresy, said they are the only speakers that could replace and surpass his Quad ESL63's in his own system. Considering he has owned the ESL63 uninterruptedly for about 30 years, it is an achievement.

I too had electrostatics for 30 years - Quad ESL63, ESL989 and ESL2905. Always a bit too big for my room but I could live with that given the speakers' remarkable properties. But now I have the Magico Q1 which, in my opinion, are at least the equal of the Quads and maybe better in my modestly sized listening room, driven by Devialet D-Premier. What praise for the Quads given that I've had to spend more than three times their cost (in the UK) to match or better them in a moving coil variant.

The best I don't know (heard many fine speakers). The one speaker that would satisfy my audiophile wet dream and I could probably live with till the end of my days: Kef MUON :p

Oh look.....more pics of Acoustats!

We know you love your behemoths, but remember your opinion is just that...an opinion. You make it sound like the Acoustat is a speaker that can't be surpassed in performance on any level.

Why John, it looks you are feeling a bit cheeky today.

when I moved to California in 1978 I got into Acoustat speakers powered with Perraux amps (from New Zealand). I owned initial Acoustat 1 +1, then I went to the Acoustat 2's and ultimately had Acoustat 6's. I thought it to be a very good sound. Only problem, like all other panels is that they don't move air in the lower octaves so subs are necessary IMO. I sold the 6's and got into dynamic speakers where I have been ever since
