I've been using the Big Sur betas for about a month or so... And I have to say it's the first MacOS version that is a clear step backwards in terms of looks.
The icons are just plain terrible, kindergarden, Windows 95 level bad. They've removed colors everywhere, like the side bar icons. And besides, I don't see or feel that there's any "must have" feature in it, at least not for me.
If it wasn't such a pain to go back to Catalina, I'd do it...

I never upgraded to Catalina because it killed some useful software. Looks like Sur is compatible with my 2014 mac mini, but i am probably getting close to getting a newer mini, anyway.
They should start naming their operating system upgrades after fires instead of the old world romantic California.
Hmm- Probably best to wait a few months anyhow for the bugs to be identified--at least the 64 Bit hiccup--with aftermarket Apps /etc

I updated last night.
No issues with anything at the moment and took the 5 minute tour that pops up in the Notification Center.
Icons in the dock take a bit of getting used to with regard to the look.
Adds features of iOS to some apps.
Basically the update brings some consistency with regard to the look of the iPhone and Macintosh as I see it in the first couple of hours of using it.
Even if the aesthetic takes some getting used to, I do like consistency of features and appearance. I had no attachment to the current Mac aesthetic, anyway. It's been overly busy for a long time, now. This might be an improvement.
It's a LONG update if you decide to it so set aside a solid hour.
Since I have the new phone and iOS, I figured I may as well get with the program and do the Mac update.
If you're in the same situation with the new phone (or iOS), go for it.
