I have been using a pair of Wilson Benesch Vector driven by a Devialet 250 Pro CI. Applying the Devialet SAM profile for the Vector I am getting a totally suitable level of bass. The treble may be the sweetest I have heard in Fact. Crystalline, defined, natural... I have listened to a pair of...
I believe that SAM requires the new chip present on the new motherboard. I was under the impression that the D1 would not be able to support it, I could be wrong.
Cheers,
Bernard
Having just compared USB and Air Ethernet on a 240 upgraded from D1, I very clearly prefer ethernet.
It does overall sound a bit brighter still, but it may be better than last week. I do also agree with Orb that the warm up time may be a bit longer. A bit of break in may help, we'll know more...
I have just received my Devialet 240 back after upgrade from D1.
I have only tested the USB connection so far using a dirt cheap USB cable that was stored in a closet (it must have shipped with some device I bought years back). The sound is extremely transparent, probably more so than what I...
Remote
For those experiencing problems with the remote, have you considered using the smart phone app?
I use an ipad to control the Mac mini that I use as a source for my D1 (currently through a Weiss Int202), and have also installed the D1 remote app on it.
I find it much more convenient...
I did install firmware 6.06, great sound in combination with Audirvana 1.5 through the Weiss Int202. The difference is subtle, but I feel it is even better, though hard to say whether it is Audirvana 1.5 (installed a few days ago) or 6.06. One thing is sure, they work really well together.
I...
You may want to read the last few pages of this thread.
I have been using a P10 with my D-Premier for half a year. It did help with the consistency of the good sound coming out of the set up.
Cheers,
Bernard
Hum... difficult to say.
The PC9300 did for sure help a lot when I installed it, it changed the sound for the better.
The main value I see in the P10 is that it reduced the variation of sound quality I was experimenting, seemingly randomly, at different times of the day after having moved...
Not my experience, the P10 did improve the sound significantly. Or at least did it significantly reduce the variability of the sound I had been experimenting.
Cheers,
Bernard
No rigorous comparison done, but since the D1 body is metal, I have personnally selected a set of quartz insulators from Acoustic Revive.
Sound is overall out of this world, don't know whether those contribute or not.
Cheers,
Bernard
That is true. But that phenomena is not quite as funny as the case where people who already own excellent gear feel threatened by the arrival of another solution. :)
I happen to own a copy of the HD Track high res version of Buena Vista Social Club.
I used not to like the album much when I...
How cool, we have a hidden hero, who has the best ear in the Western part of the galaxy, a guy who has never been wrong... He decides to get out of his secret retreat to tell the world about how poor the favorite amp of John Atkinson is. ;)
His supporters jump in to back up his credibility...
I cannot help notice that these comments show up days after one of the most positive review ever in stereophile. This test is not about looks, it is first and foremost about sound quality.
I do not believe in such coincidences and, let's be clear, I do personally question the bias of this...
Right... there are enough non-audiophiles in Warsaw interested in spending 15,000 Euro on an amp that you have to mention you would "recommend" it to them... I also tend to suggest my non pilot friends to buy a Porsche, even though I find it disappointing compared to the 2012 Formula 1s...
And...
Considering that John Atkinson is probably the most influential audio reviewer in the US, if not in the world, this quote is an amazing X-Mas gift for the good folks of Devialet.
Cheers,
Bernard
Well, that's one way to look at it. On the other hand, the commitement of Devialet with upgrades was not about sound quality, it was about missing features.
I feel that most of us were already very happy with the way the D^Premier sounded when we purchased it and we had no expectation in...
5.7.1/1.5 is definitely a big wow as far as my set up is concerned when using Air.
Memory can be deceiving, but the realism of the instruments has seemingly gone another notch up with this upgrade. I think I hear more texture, more realism and overall more pleasure listening. Can it really...
Possible!
Yes, you can of course do that.
Depending on the type of output of your preferred source you will either use the DAC of the source or that of the devialet. The dac of the devialet is very well integrated with the amp so it is probably the better option.
I have personally...
Have been using the PS Audio P10 for a week and am very happy so far.
The inconsistency I used to hear between sessions is gone and the sound does seem even cleaner, faster and more transparent. The combo with the Wilson Benesch Vector is simply unbelievably good. I was listening to track 14 of...
Almost a bargain. :)
Still, it remains uncommon to see such a huge gap of price btwn equipments in a coherent system, assuming that they are similarly positioned relative to the very best among available options. Since the Wilson is arguably the best speaker ever produced...
This just...
He did in fact explicitly mention PS Audio products, he didn't provide details on which of their power re-generators he has been using though.
I have personally started to consider the P10.
By the way, Paul Miller decided to test the latest 250,000 US$ Wilson Audio Alexandra XLF speakers...
cables
I have been using an Esoteric PC-9300 power cable (expensive at 2.500+ US$ but one of the best power cables at any price in my view) and Viard Audio Design HD20 speaker cables. Costing less than 800 US$ for a pair, this is one of the very best deal available on the market today in my...
The version 1.4 of the Devialet Air software for iTunes and the corresponding firmware 5.6 are now publicly available. They enable native playback up to 24/96 and downsampled playback for the higher frequencies, support for IR remote controls and tone tuning.
Devialet has also released an...
This is not about being afraid, this is about getting consistent results.
There is simply no way any piece of gear can be smart enough to know how to compensate for whatever cheating was done upstream in the process. The best one can do is to be faithful because the only available reference...
It probably depends on the speakers you have to drive with them. My Wilson Benesch Vector are a relatively easily load it seems. I did in fact have an opportunity to purchase a second D-Premier at a price I could probably have afforded (demo unit), but decided it was already good enough and did...
