Been going for probably a decade but his year I am doing an entire week in a 5 star central Munich hotel. Bored of slumming it in average rubbish.
So both shows, as pretty much always.
Prediction for best speaker: Alsyvox.
You shouldn't listen to valves/tubes.
It's long been known they are rubbish.
In many respects they are.
But you have to sit there and listen.
Then, somehow, all the faults seem acceptable.
It is curious, I agree, but for me it does seem to be true.
Just spent a month on post #1 of this...
I don't personally think the Auditorium's are even vaguely close to the Rafaello based on Munich 2023 show conditions.
I wouldn't swap my souped up Duettas for the Auditorium. However, I would swap my Duettas for the Raffaello plus a lot of cash, though not enough to reach the asking price...
I spent a very long time being really fond of the Sylvania VT-52 when I bought one of the first Big 7 DACs from Lampizator.
With the internals of that DAC easily thrown away due to the use of a particularly shitty set of cheap toroids and an excellent re-build by some really good hardware...
I went for Path resistors in my Apogee crossovers a good few years ago now.
The casings on all of them now look amazing (non-labelled area).
Copper does that as it ages. Turns all sorts of great colours you don't usually see mixed together elsewhere.
HMS Victory had a copper hull upgrade...
Hm. Always thought your hearing was a bit dodgy, Christoph;)
EML AD1 is the best out of the EML or KR tubes I have tried. Including the KR 242. I prefer their PX25. I rarely use the EML AD1 because there are quite a few I prefer, really, with the benefit of hindsight.
But when I go back to it...
Look up the heater and pin specs and buy a voltmeter to run across the two heater pins.
Adaptors make it really easy to raise the tube to do this if your Lampi recesses the base.
Generally running on the heater specs does seem to produce the best results, funnily enough.
When you get into it...
Thanks.
The UST projector is a pure pleasure. No need for privacy on it. Whilst the picture in my shot does it no favours, I have it ultra dialed in now. Absolute to the millimetre precision is where it is at here. It's performing way better as the quality of the source i.e. the internet is...
Love to see a number of lid off shots of the Poseidon.
Why?
Just to see the design and component quality used and ensure it remains stable over time.
But mainly so that buyer's actually know with certainty what they are going to get if they go for it.
Whilst cheap Chinese tubes can to some...
Do I see 4 Chinese 6V6GT pentodes running as triodes or am I mistaken?
Why not return back to basics if you want to give the benefit of your experience to younger people and sell the electronics to those that can build it with guidelines.
That would just be fucking cool at your stage in life.
I have a pair bought from Jac Music which are as I got them new, really. I didn't really use them for many hours. Less than 50 I would say.
If anyone wants them at $900 plus postage costs PM me.
One caveat is they don't have the Lampi Anniv markings, just the standard EML ones, but they are...
It is all a balancing act. Whilst there are winners and losers at any particular time in your system, any change of components anywhere in the chain will change your list of winning and losing tubes or valves.
With three power amp choices, I find the character of various Lampi tubes seems to...
It's your journey. Get what you like and think is great.
Final three amps that just work here in my system.
1 pair of Austrian monobocks amps that aren't made anymore and are not for sale for any realistic price I can let them go for.
The other amps, both pairs, are extremely high quality...
Good to see this nearly 5 year old thread still alive...:)
I am rolling power amps at the moment. Only the three options I own but each are great in their own very different ways.
I find changes in power amp presentation really enjoyable from time to time.
Hard to quantify how it is different...
Tomei is a decent amp. I know PQ a little bit and a friend of his I used to meet up with gave him a lot of his amps to try out. I have never been able to work out why that is the case, but hey. Friends are friends and there was obviously something audiophile going on there.
But the choice of...
On An/Es they are very good.
Amperex, Telefunken or United Electronics tubes they will be better than PQ will sell you by default IMHO.
They will be OK on the better Chinese 211 copies.
Note: my DAC is extensively modified from an old Lampizator spec and is always changing. So my advice won't always ring true in second rate Lampi DACs
That said, I believe what I say are decent tubes are pretty decent tubes.
TMBF1 is really lovely. Tele 242 is in the same euphonic ballpark IMHO.
Using an Amazon Fire TV Cube as a source with Amazon Music into a high end system reveals there's no reasonable gain control from the Amazon box.
If high gain is a priority, Tesla RD27AS followed by (not the Tele 242) the...
Scott 350 is amazing I have one that looks like it was almost born yesterday.
I did a tuner thing a while back and the further in history I went back the better things got sonically. Literally. I bought different highly rated examples from each decade.
Look for the best 1963 multiplexing...
Read the first post of this thread and the one above.
I am just about to try EML AD1 for fun but it won't last long... maybe to the next session.
A change is as good as a rest and I will probably love the contrast/change in presentation for a while.
@bazelio no can do don't own a pair. I regard it as largely extinct at realistic prices.
I did own a pair of Telefunken RS242. I think you know as well as I do that it bears no similarity to the KR version. It could not be more different IMHO. The gain isn't super high, and therefore it doesn't...
