How do you DO that? These are incredibly impressive photographs!!! On the one hand, do you leave the aperture open for 10 seconds...on the other hand, if you did...how do you keep everything so sharp in the sky? You can tell I am a complete amateur!

Night photography of the Milky Way is always a challenge.
Typically the sky and the foreground have to be exposed at different exposure times due to the low lighting.
Then the 2 exposures are blended together for the final photograph.
Since I use a star tracker on many of my sky exposures, I exposed the Milky Way at 180 seconds, ISO 800.
The foreground was exposed at 2 seconds.

WOW...we are SO going to try that!!! That is very, very, VERY cool. Would love to have a big 6' shot like this in our room and say we took that! We have big photos from Patagonia, Cambodia, Easter Island...sunrises mainly, but this is a whole other level! Thanks for the advice!
