Etta James
Bettye LaVette
Koko Taylor

Devert-I am not aware of ANY on the list, i have homework to do....

What a great question! There are so many great gals in music. I like the oldies, so Olivia Newton John, Linda Ronstadt, Shania Twain. Remember Lesley Gore and a one hit wonder Marcie Blane (Bobby's Girl). Also, Barbara Striesand, Martha Reeves, Jo Stafford and Judy Garland. Just to mention a few.

What a great thread!

Two of my favorites that haven't been mentioned - Barbara Keith and Cesaria Evora.

For an introduction to Evora, the compilation is a good start:

Bob,

You have some also I like....Eva Cassidy, can't leave her off.

Yes Eva Cassidy she was great; sad that she left so soon...

There are so many great female singers; from Jazz to Blues, from Folk to Soul, from Classical Opera to Choral...
From way back in the twenties, thirties, forties, fifties up till now.
The list is just too big; it is impossible to love just one as your favorite. Perhaps in the present moment when you are listening, but certainly not over all the years.

Agree with what's been posted. I would add Nancy Wilson and Bonnie Raitt

A year or so ago, I went on a big Dinah Washington jag for a few months.

I've had that happen with Joni, Eva, Ricki and Diana, too.

This might sound weird, but I also get in a Connie Francis mood sometimes.

Then, there are the 50's girl groups -- especially the Shirelles.

Rosemary Clooney anyone?

And of course Billie H.

Melody Gardot is a recent find.

So is Patty Griffin, whom I know you would all love.

Take a listen.....

It's from her album Living With Ghosts, which is great.

I love her voice!
