Have a feeling my 1160 is ill. Front light showing steady red. Have tried connections, switches, etc etc but no dice. This looks like an issue for the dealer/importer unless I have missed something. Yes/ No?
Thanks joey_v. Didn't know there is a kill switch as well as the rear panel main on/off (left/right) switch. I can't see any reference to it in the manual so can't locate it. Can you help again, please? V grateful.
I assume those are the ones numbered 6, 12, 12, 6? Press in any order? "Unit off" means with the unit attached to the mains but with the rear panel switch at OFF? Thanks again.
If the unit was tripped by a dc surge, then those kill switches, one of them might be popped out. So while unit it powered down, press all 4 of those switches in so they are flush.
then unplug all inputs, and then power on and see.
Thanks for this - the manual does indeed refer to the DC offset detection (but I'm not a tech guy).. And it also says reset the breakers on the rear panel. But it doesn't say what the breakers look like - Joey above says they are the 4 circular buttons, two on each side of the mains power input.
So perhaps I should disconnect the pre-amp and see if that does it; and after that try pushing the breaker reset buttons.
Does that make sense? Thanks again.
Thanks to both for your suggestions, all of which I've tried, but amp still showing constant red. I've emailed Boulder to get contact for repairs here in the UK.
Thanks to all for suggestions. I've connected Boulder and they say they will need to make up a replacement board for 1160 and get it to me in the UK in the next week or so.
But your suggestions enabled me to eliminate lots of possible causes including my own stupidity - so many thanks,
At the moment I don;t know because still waiting for more info. But it looks as though it was connected with a brief power outage affecting our area at about 23.20 GMT last Monday. I had switched pre- and power to standby as usual at 22.00 hrs that evening but first noticed the light the following morning when all was silence.
If I get more info I'll share it with the forum.
Man that sucks. I know perhaps there might be slight cut to my quality, but I have my Boulder hooked up to a Torus RM20. You should look into that, these breakdowns always suck.
I have owned a 1060 for a couple of years , best made piece of audio gear i have ever owned.
Never had an issue , never had to reset the circuit brakers .
Just in case anyone is still reading this thread: support from Boulder and from their UK distributors YG Acoustics was exemplary. A new board was made up by Boulder and delivered to YG in Cambridge. Their top guy Chris Rees and colleague brought the board here on Monday and fitted and tested in my listening room. All back to normal. Top marks all round but still don't really know why the 1160 had a nervous breakdown. If they explained it, I wouldn't understand it, I suppose....
